Some of the coolest room and home decor themes are also the most minimal and deconstructed. It's a look that's hip and has just the right amount of edge for the home. There's a certain nonchalance about a place that looks great without appearing overly contrived. A half-finished, industrial style has a bad-boy appeal and is actually quite easy to achieve with just the right accents. Think metals - iron, steel, and chrome - and newer materials, like plastics and glass. By getting rid of clutter and adding simple furniture and unique decor, you can soon start living in your own street-savvy spot! It IS easy being green! At least at Emerald it is. These twin towers of eco-friendly condos on the east edge of Chicago'ss hot, hot, hot West Loop neighborhood offer a calm, relaxing retreat in the middle of the urban jungle. Decorated in a variety of natural greens and recycled materials, the lobby (with 2-story glass atrium), bar/lounge and boardroom are conscious common areas just steps from Restaurant Row, Greektown, The Loop and the financial district. Each unit has a private balcony -- many with picturesque skyline views -- as another way to bring nature inside. And with an appropriate address on Green Street, Emerald lives up to its gem status in luxury environmentally responsible living.

It's time to spice things up at home, and not just in the bedroom either! While we would all love to be jet-setters and fly off to exotic places halfway across the world, it is not a possibility for many of us due to money, time or both. Although the mysticism of far away lands may be enticing, but not quite within reach at the moment, these sumptuous luxuries and richly saturated materials can be brought back and enjoyed in your own home. With ethnic African and safari-inspired prints that make your living area feel like a trip to the savannah, richly saturated and beautifully decorated rugs and home accents that make you feel like you're laying back in a Persian palace, and the minimalist sophistication of Asian-inspired pieces that help give you a peaceful and meditative state, you can take a trip around the world in the comfort of your own home. Click on the slideshow to see some home decor that will add the alluring glamour of distant destinations to your living space.

Hot In The Hive: Jonathan Adler Mr. and Mrs. Muse Salt And ...

These days, I'm getting invited to fewer wild parties and going to more subdued wedding showers and housewarming parties instead. Well... they seem more subdued until someone drinks one too many wine coolers and the rest is Facebook infamy. Anyway, the point of the story is that I'm no longer expected to bring a six-pack of cheap beer. Instead, I have to buy a real gift that they'll actually want to use. That's why I've been falling back on the creative genius of designer Jonathan Adler and buying all his cute creations. My latest find is the Mr. and Mrs. Muse salt and pepper shakers. These super adorable salt and pepper shakers is a great choice for a housewarming or hostess gift for any quirky friends you may have. As the night wanes and I have the urge to be a little immature, I can always bring the two shakers together and have them make kissy faces. Please, don't tell me you didn't think of that too!

    Price: $48
Who Found It: facadeindreams was the first to add Jonathan Adler Mr. and Mrs. Muse salt and pepper shakers to the Hive.

Lighten Up! With Illuminated Furniture For Every Room

Need to brighten up a room? Better than a lamp may just be a piece of illuminated furniture! As there are plenty of sconces, table lamps, ceiling and floor lamps to wade through in your quest for the perfect one, perhaps thinking outside the conventional lighting department could help. No, don't rip down your curtains. Try instead a table with the glow of a lamp inside, but be warned-- tracking down these fancy furnishings isn't easy as they're certainly a not on top of everyone's list. They are, however, if you're looking to transform your place into a posh pad. Illuminated furniture creates an ambiance unlike that of any spotlight. And, if your lighting concept involves your tabletops, the things that adorn them will see a new light of day. Click through the slideshow for a sample of some shiny surfaces!

Luxe Minimalism For Your Home On A Minimal Budget!

    image

Simplicity in design is a hard thing to achieve. To show good taste and sophistication through minimalism and to have practical and beautiful styles that are sleek and not overwhelming are all characteristics of good design. Every time I see displays of furniture showrooms, or flip through home decor magazines, I always find myself drawn to the most simple and clutter-free layouts. There's something modern, chic and comforting about the sleek lines and clean, spacious feel of a room designed in a minimalist manner. However, the prices for these pieces usually are so minimal. A house should be a home and you should decorate it the way you want, but not if that means buying the furniture is going to take the roof over your head away! I've found multiple pieces and home accessories that will give your living space the sleek, minimalist look you want, without your bank account falling into minimalist territory as well! Check out the slideshow for ideas!
