Cambridge Glass 1933 Everglade candle holder. Unique organic style hails from the art nouveau era. This rare pattern is very hard to find, especially in excellent condition as this Everglade Candelabra is. There are no chips or cracks.  It is 'as new' and is approximately 75 years old. In the early 1900's glassmakers added a mineral called Manganese to the glass to make it strong.  Soon they realized the after effect of the Manganese caused the glass to take on a hint of purple as it was exposed to natural light.  Commonly known as 'sun purple glass'. Sun purple glass should not be dark purple, if it is, it has been left out in the sun intentionally.  This old beauty has just a hint of purple. The manganese emmits a green/yellow glow under blacklight.  Often a result like this is called vaseline glass.  This is not vaseline glass.  Vaseline glass must have an original tint of yellow or green. This Everglade item does not show green or yellow before exposure to the blacklight.  Clear glass that glows under blacklight is an indication of Manganese and is helpful in dating an item. Stunning beauty, very scarce. Measures 10' at widest, 5.25' tall, on a 6' wide base.  Weighs 1.5 lbs.
