    Style Flashback: Cher From "Clueless"

    image
Ida Hsiang on Nov 16, 2009 5:17 AM PST
Before there was Carrie Bradshaw, there was Cher Horowitz, the misguided matchmaker cum fashionista of her Beverly Hills high school. She's Paris Hilton with a heart (and a brain), and her closet was the envy of every 16-year-old girl in 1995. We're campaigning to bring back Cher's killer style for 2009 -- but how? That's where our fashion expert Brian comes in, with some tips on pulling it off. Brian says: Luckily, Cher's style wasn't quite as dated as some of her mid-'90s contemporaries (no flannel shirts here). Her look was upscale prep. Think Gucci meets the Gap. Cher rocked the sexy schoolgirl look way before Britney -- and with much better hair.

    Lemondrop's Latest Beauty Obsession: Bangs!

    image
Anna Yu on Nov 9, 2009 5:23 AM PST
A few weeks ago, two Lemondrop staffers, Bonnie Biess and Julieanne Smolinski, got bangs. It isn't important who got them first, only that they set in motion an office bang wave in which the fringe-y hair style spread like a viral wedding dance video. I was next to succumb, followed by Urlesque editor Kelly Reeves. And these are just your classic straight-across-the-forehead-style bangs -- other Lemondrop eds sport side-swept and other long bang varieties. (In the spirit of full disclosure, I should tell you that we're also all brunettes.) But the popularity of the look doesn't surprise me in the slightest, considering how obsessed I've become since breaking into the world of bangs. I've always liked them -- after all, what's good enough for Bettie Page is good enough for me. But it wasn't until I got them myself that I realized how bangs really kick your whole look into high-gear. They're basically their own accessory, adding quirk and edge to even basic looks. Style Flashback: Buffy From "Buffy The Vampire Slayer"

Goth never looked quite as good as it did on Sarah Michelle Gellar as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." She kicked some serious butt with some serious style. Buffy rocked black and leather like nobody's business, and the sultry bad-girl look she sported on the show landed her one of the hottest vampires on the small screen (we love you, Angel). We wanted some tips on how to re-create Buffy's look, and Lemondrop's fashion expert Brian answered the call. Brian says, "Buffy was edgy without being too over the top; sexy without showing too much skin -- and that's the reason she was always so stylin'. She straddled the line between kick-ass vampire slayer and regular teenager by mixing textures and styles to create a unique, am-I-dangerous-or-not look." Style Flashback: Lisa Turtle From 'Saved by the Bell'

Jessie Spano was the brains and Kelly Kapowski was the beauty, but it was Lisa Turtle who had all the style. Saved by the Bell's resident style expert and gossip queen was sassy with sophisticated taste -- heck, she was even accepted into the Fashion Institute of Technology on the show's finale. But could we pull off her over-the-top look? To the rescue with some tips on making it work: our in-house fashion expert Brian. Brian says Lisa's wild style is back in a big way with graphic fit-and-flare dresses and light-wash denim jackets. Turn down the volume on her high-intensity style by sticking to tamer prints with fewer colors. Check out more of Lisa Turtle's style by clicking over to our friends at Lemondrop!

LemonDrop Suggests You "Trick Or Chic" With Fashion-Inspired ...

Alex Gambardella on Oct 19, 2009 5:22 AM PDT
Craving a Halloween costume that's not so much scary as it is stylish? Why not pay homage to an iconic fashion personality? From a ghoulish Karl Lagerfeld to a monstrous cat-wielding Kenley Collins, these get-ups are just right for fashionistas who are less into "boo" and more into "Goo ... cci." How about Anna Wintour? Between her pow-wow with David Letterman and the success of "The September Issue," it may just be the Year of the Icy British Editrix. Here's what you'll need:

    -elegant dress or skirt suit
    -bobbed wig with bangs
    -fabulous heels
    -devil's accessories
    -sunglasses
    -copy of Vogue
    -haughty attitude

You may not be able to snap your fingers and have a designer frock suddenly appear, but you can fake it. Simply throw on your finest skirt suit or dress (bearing in mind that Ms. Wintour does not do black), affix an inverted triangle Prada label you've cleverly made out of construction paper, stick some devil's horns atop your bobbed wig, and slap on some giant black shades. Extra points for carrying a copy of Vogue or having your giant Andre Leon Talley lookalike BFF hover behind you in a cape. Click over to Lemondrop for three more clever ideas!
