Our Top 5 Over-The-Knee Boots for Fall!

Move over leggings, "jeggings" and pantslessness, you've got some leg-covering competition this fall! Over-the-knee boots were all the rage this season and are the perfect shoe to add to your collection. Hussein Chalayan added garter belts, Prada made rubber waders stylish, and Stella McCartney's faux-leather leggings were actually boots that pulled up to to mid thigh. With their eighties-meets-Pretty Woman vibe, they pair well with the micro minis, but choose a chunky or flat heel or an oversized sweater to balance out their sex appeal. Let them slightly slip down the thigh for relaxed, slouchy appearance or add a sexy garter belt for a daring DIY twist. Check out the slideshow for our five favorite pairs!

Essence Takes A Look At 30 Days Of Rihanna's Style

While Rihanna may have been hiding under her umbrella and taking a breather from the music scene ever since the Chris Brown fiasco, she hasn't lost the following of her faithful fans... and her fellow fashionistas! A strong girl like Ri-Ri isn't one to let a scandal get her down for long, and her eclectic and edgy style hasn't suffered any despite her tiny break from the spotlight. From LA to NYC and beyond, she's partied it up with pals in metallic leggings, relaxed spa-style in flowing printed dresses, rooted for the Lakers courtside in funky sneaker heels, and embraced her inner rocker-chick with moto jackets and a buzzed hairstyle. The Essence blog tracks her fashionable footsteps over the recent months as she enjoys the single life and gets ready to embrace the limelight yet again! Head over to take a look at the slideshow!

Are Baggy, Footless Tights In Your Fashion Future?

    image

I'm all for most hosiery trends, whether it be two-toned, crazy-patterned, or studded leg wear. And I've never been an opponent of "tights as pants," as long as it's done tastefully. But I have to admit that I don't know what to make of Wolford's Voile leggings/footless tights. Isn't hosiery supposed to be fitted, not baggy? I have to say that these look like the cheap stockings sold at drugstores and bodegas, which are barely adequate when you're in a bind and create a very unsexy-looking leg. These leggings, however, aren't inexpensive, and retail for about $62. They not only look weird (and not in a good eccentric way) and cost too much, but are also impractical. I can't think of any way to rock these that wouldn't make the wearer look short and malnourished. Well, I guess if you're trying to look thinner, these might do the trick, but would you really want to risk having your style license revoked? I didn't think so. Head over to TheFrisky for more!

    CollegeCandy Wishlist: Denim, Or Sweats?

    image

When it comes to many things in life, including fashion, I'm a fan of odd, quirky things that leave people asking questions. No, I'm not going to start wearing fairy wings like one of the girls on What Not To Wear, but I did pick up a pair of pants last week that totally fit the bill. They were a pair of skinny denim-like pants by Fragile that I scored at T.J. Maxx for $17, but normally retail for $29 (sweet!) at Hot Topic, a store I haven't stepped into since my friend's goth days in high school. Anyway, the pants look like jeans, but function somewhat like sweatpants in that you basically pull them on and button the single button at the top. I would say that they are comparable to denim leggings, although I prefer these Fragile pants since they look more like jeans and aren't as skintight. These pants are definitely the answer to every college girl's fashion dilemma: chic sweatpants? That you can wear to class? And not look sloppy? I think it's time we all made a run to Hot Topic! Ole! A Touch Of Spain In Your Summer Style!

    image

Flowy white dresses and light linen layers are still feminine and flirty summer staples, but this season, designers are really stepping it up! The theme for this summer is bold and bright! Pop colors, ruffles and the hourglass shape are taking over the neutral shades and simple silhouettes of summers past. All these stimulating colors and fun details are reminiscent of traditional Spanish clothing twisted with modern edge, giving this style trend an air of classic sophistication while making a sexy and chic statement all at once! Cropped and embellished boleros are perfect summer outerwear, covering just enough for cooler summer nights and really standing out as the key piece to an ensemble. Or really vamp up the sexy, feminine side and sashay your way into sunshine with a tiered and ruffled dress like a modern day Flamenco dancer! Girly details just not your thing? No worries! Leggings with high-waists and other Spanish-inspired details are definitely in, as are decorated button-downs and embroidery and embellishments on everything! Check out the slide-show for more eye-catching, colorful items inspired by the beauty and culture of Spain!
