Real Leather Jackets For Under $250!

Oh, the leather jacket. Never before has one piece garnered so much attention in the "save or splurge" category. You know the pros and cons of each by now, so let's jump ahead to a much more exciting debate: real vs. faux leather. Faux leather is usually easy to distinguish from real, and a faux jacket can run you anywhere from $40 at Forever 21 to almost $200 at Urban Outfitters. While there are gems to be found, my guess is you're giving up either quality fabric (not that good faux leather doesn't exist) or quality construction-- two things that can make or break your purchase. Real leather jackets, while often considerably more expensive, are generally going to be of a higher overall quality, regardless of the material, so if you plan on wearing your jacket regularly for more than one season, you may want to invest in the real deal. I've found several real leather jackets that retail for less than $250, and if you can dig up a coupon code or are brave enough to play the game known as "I'll wait 'til it goes on sale," you can snap one of these up for quite the steal. The trick is to look in places you may not normally frequent! So-called "mom brands" like Ann Taylor, Eddie Bauer, and Jones New York happen to have gorgeous leather jackets that easily rival the trend pieces you'd see in any high-end shop-- at about a third of the price. Style Flashback: Buffy From "Buffy The Vampire Slayer"

Goth never looked quite as good as it did on Sarah Michelle Gellar as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." She kicked some serious butt with some serious style. Buffy rocked black and leather like nobody's business, and the sultry bad-girl look she sported on the show landed her one of the hottest vampires on the small screen (we love you, Angel). We wanted some tips on how to re-create Buffy's look, and Lemondrop's fashion expert Brian answered the call. Brian says, "Buffy was edgy without being too over the top; sexy without showing too much skin -- and that's the reason she was always so stylin'. She straddled the line between kick-ass vampire slayer and regular teenager by mixing textures and styles to create a unique, am-I-dangerous-or-not look." Click over to Lemondrop to see how you can update her iconic 90s look.

7 Seriously Alluring (And Wearable!) Leather Mini Dresses

    image

Fashionistas just can't get enough of leather this fall. Moto jacket? Check. Fingerless driving gloves? Check. Liquid leggings? Check, once you work up the nerve to actually wear them. But one thing you may have yet to add to your autumn trend arsenal is a leather dress! I know it sounds risky, since prior to this recent leather invasion you probably associate the material mostly with biker babes and dominatrices, but you may be surprised to find that this season's leather LBDs aren't overdramatic. Instead, the latest leather minis simply provide a sexy sheen to otherwise modest silhouettes like this Gryphon smock dress and this shift dress from Alice + Olivia. Pair with a killer set of ankle booties for your next dressy night out, or add some serious sparkle with a bib necklace and you've got yourself a New Years Eve ensemble (hey, it's never too early to plan ahead)! Check the slideshow for some of my favorite leather dresses.

How Much Would You Be Willing To Splurge On A Shearling Moto ...

    image
Alex Gambardella on Oct 24, 2009 9:25 AM PDT
As the air starts to get chilly and the leather moto jacket trend starts to get a little exhausted, designers are spicing things up -- studs, built-in belts, and of course, fur and shearling-trimmed collars. As any avid shopper knows, not all trendy biker jackets are created equal... so how to choose? Here we break down a few collared options from opposite ends of the cost spectrum, because depending on your budget (or lack thereof) and your insatiable desire for brand names, a suspiciously good steal isn't necessarily the way to go when you want an investment piece, yet spending a month's rent on one wardrobe addition isn't always in the cards either. Forever 21's Fleece Trim Moto Jacket looks perfectly chic, especially with its appealing $34.80 price tag... but of course, it's not real leather and I wouldn't bet my life savings on how long the piece will last you. The Motorcycle Jacket with Faux Fur Trim by Aqua is genuine leather, but is the authentic material worth the extra $265.20? And of course, for those who won't settle for anything less than the best, the Acne Rita 2 Jacket is convertible with its removable collar -- meaning even more possibilities for long-term wearability. But it also comes at a price. A whopping $1130 price. Which moto jacket do you think is the wisest deal? Vote below on whether you'd save, splurge, or go the middle road... or just scrap the trend altogether!
