7 Seriously Alluring (And Wearable!) Leather Mini Dresses

    image
Alex Gambardella on окт 27, 2009 2:18 PM PDT
Fashionistas just can't get enough of leather this fall. Moto jacket? Check. Fingerless driving gloves? Check. Liquid leggings? Check, once you work up the nerve to actually wear them. But one thing you may have yet to add to your autumn trend arsenal is a leather dress! I know it sounds risky, since prior to this recent leather invasion you probably associate the material mostly with biker babes and dominatrices, but you may be surprised to find that this season's leather LBDs aren't overdramatic. Instead, the latest leather minis simply provide a sexy sheen to otherwise modest silhouettes like this Gryphon smock dress and this shift dress from Alice + Olivia. Pair with a killer set of ankle booties for your next dressy night out, or add some serious sparkle with a bib necklace and you've got yourself a New Years Eve ensemble (hey, it's never too early to plan ahead)! Check the slideshow for some of my favorite leather dresses.

The Coveted Loves Mahtab Azimi's Little Black Dress

Everyone needs a comfy little black dress in their wardrobe arsenal. This much I know... and I have quite a few in my closet to back it up! Yet, like black shoes, there never seems to be enough! When designer Mathab Azimi sent me this lovely Micah sheered tunic dress for a review, I just couldn't be happier. The Micah dress is made with a poly-rayon blend which has kind of a jersey feel, only softer and with more movement.

The Pros: For $69.95 this dress is really well-made. The dress is very adjustable, with a tie belt and even the sleeves are customizable with ties, and can easily be worn with bows showing in the front or back. The length of the dress will adjust according to how much you pull up the top, and you can make it shorter in front, longer in back, mini or knee length. I really liked the gathering which gives it a nice Grecian effect.
The Cons: The only real gripe I have is that it's dry clean only. If I had to pick something else, it would be that the flip side of adjustability also means that sometimes you need to adjust the dress during the day, but not much.

All in all, it's a great dress and since it's done by an independent designer, the price is more than reasonable. I definitely would recommend it! Check out The Coveted for more fashion reviews!

Recession Chic: Shop Like A French Woman

    image
Anna Yu on апр 20, 2009 10:19 AM PDT
At first glance, shopping like a French woman doesn't exactly seem like the most economically sensible thing to be doing right now. But give me a chance and hear me out. These days, we've been shopping based on the lowest price tags and highest discounts we can find. I admit I've purchased things that didn't fit or wasn't my style just because it was 75% off. Staring into a closet full of clothes I don't care to wear, I've started taking tips from the French! The first thing to do is go shopping with a plan. Much like making a grocery list before you go to the supermarket, make a list of what you need before you go to the mall. That way, you won't get sidetracked and go home with a bunch of clothes and accessories you don't need. Another suggestion is to figure out the cost-per-wear for what you're buying. A $500 high quality trench coat you wear three times a week for a year makes the cost per wear to be about $3. A trench coat made of a lesser quality may cost less at the beginning, but it could mean you have to buy a new one every few months. Also consider and assess every purchase you make. A neon dress may be an of the moment trend, but may not be something you want to wear 5 years down the line. Follow these rules and you'll be surprised at how much you can get out of a few simple pieces of clothing. Here's my list of essential items every French woman has in her closet, and you should too! Be sure to check out the slideshow to see where you can get the goods.

    1. Don't be afraid to spend the big bucks on well-fitting suit! You can wear the whole thing together at business meetings or just wear the jacket with jeans for a semi-casual night out.
    2. Ballet flats is a stylish and comfortable shoe choice for low-key days.
    3. A trench coat is utilitarian, but slap on some red lipstick and suddenly you're a film noir star!

Which Young Starlet Showed Off The Most Grown-Up Fashion ...

    image
Alex Gambardella on мар 30, 2009 1:17 PM PDT
This past Saturday, while UCLA students begrudgingly returned to campus as spring break came to a close, their back-to-school blues were made just a little more bearable with a slew of orange carpet celebrity sightings right on campus! Nickelodeon's 2009 Kids' Choice Awards, which takes place annually at the school's Pauley Pavilion, brought to Bruin territory the likes of Megan Fox, Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, and the whole High School Musical crew, among tons of other Young Hollywood appearances worthy of making any paparazzo drool. While the kids called the shots as far as who received a golden Blimp statuette and who got slimed, it was the ladies who took the cake on the carpet, looking much more like refined young women than their kiddie characters who shot them to fame. Instead of the more casual jeans-and-heels combo that stars have been known to rock at the lesser-hyped award shows geared towards kids and teens, today's younger vixens stepped it up a notch with designer babydolls and platform sandals, showing that they can compete stylewise with even some of fashion's most mature! Vote below on who you think looked the most fab beyond her years! Photo Credit: PR Photos
