LC Lauren Conrad For Kohl's Appeals To Recessionistas

    image

Like most celebrity designers with high-priced items, appealing to the masses has become the latest trend. Target, Walmart and Kohl's have replaced Bloomingdale's, Saks and Barneys. Who can afford those anymore? And so celebrities, or their advisers, got smart. Sell your clothes for less in highly trafficked discount stores. Genius! The latest celeb designer to jump on the trendy-for-cheap bandwagon is Lauren Conrad herself. While LC's casual, Cali-chic pieces used to sell for upwards of $150, her line at Kohl's, LC Lauren Conrad, is priced below $50. Consisting of laid-back tees, tanks, dresses and jeans, the line is actually pretty nice for casual wear. I even saw a pair of boyfriend jeans for $37! Her line debuted on September 15th in select Kohl's nationwide and her second collection hit stores October 1st. Head over to WhatsWear to watch as Lauren explains her line and how she got ready for the launch.

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Nanette Lepore

A recurring theme I've seen at Fashion Week this year is the resurgence of bright colors and an overall feeling of optimism. And who better to demonstrate the powers of optimism than the eternally cheerful clothes of Nanette Lepore? Case in point: some of the models couldn't resist sneaking a smile when walking down the runway! Lepore's spring 2010 collection featured bright pinks, oranges, and blues in a mix of playful printed dresses and striped knits. One of the standout looks was a strapless white cocktail dress with spatters of color that looked like they came from a package of multi-colored highlighters (but in a good way!). I can picture some of Nanette's faithful celeb clientele like Blake Lively, Katherine Heigl, Taylor Swift, and Freida Pinto wearing many of Lepore's outfits next spring. I was totally inspired by the beauty looks with the models' hair pulled back without slicking down the flyaway hairs. Add a bright aqua eyeshadow swiped along the lower lash line and a pink-orange lipstick and you're good to go. Check out my slideshow to see some of my favorite outfits from the show.

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: 3.1 Phillip Lim

It's no big secret in the Stylehive office that I'm a huge fan of Phillip Lim so of course I jumped at the chance to cover his fashion show! His latest collection shown at Fashion Week featured a red runway with mirrored backdrop which set the tone for the looks. The models were all business with a modern suit in a deep red double breasted jacket and matching shorts. Lim featured many menswear inspired looks including a grey v-neck sweater over a long silky button front shirt with a bit of a lacy slip peeking out. The 3.1 Phillip Lim woman of next spring may be all business, but they are well aware of their femininity too. Asymmetrical dresses with appliques on the bodice or a sheer lace crop top in chartreuse paired with a matching high-waisted trouser breezed down the runway. Odds are that we'll be seeing these looks again on the set of Gossip Girl or on the red carpet on the likes of Lim's celeb fans like Camilla Belle or Kate Bosworth. Beauty looks to be aware of are side-parted hair and strong eyebrows. Take a peek at my slideshow for some of my favorite looks from the show!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Twinkle by Wenlan

Designer Wenlan Chia of Twinkle by Wenlan described her Spring 2010 collection as "the spirit of Yoko Ono with the attitude of Blondie." Known for her colorful knits and playful accessories, Chia's latest collection at New York Fashion Week was more about the flashes and pops of color rather than wearing them all at once. I can definitely see the bohemian meets '80s looks on her celeb clients like Lauren Conrad, Mischa Barton, or Kate Hudson! From easy going separates fit for the beach to sweet and innocent dresses that can go from brunch to the dance floor, Twinkle has got you covered for any occasion. One of my favorite looks included a black and white cardigan with a tie front as well as a black and white geometric print tunic top. Beauty looks sure to be on trend next spring are a dewy face, a bright tangerine lip, white nails, and tousled bed head hair. Click on my slideshow to see some of my favorite looks from the show!

CollegeCandy Shows How To Jump On The High-Waisted Skirt Trend!

    image
Alex Gambardella on Sep 11, 2009 5:18 AM PDT
Like most of you, I am a [recently graduated but not willing to accept it] college student who would rather dish out money for fashion than food. But sometimes, like in a recession (or when I'm really hungry), that doesn't work out so well. A girl's gotta eat (and look fabulous), right? Which is why I was having some serious issues lately. You see, I am in love with the whole high-waisted skirt look that I see on celebs like Lauren Conrad and Amanda Bynes. It's slimming and cute and I loooove it. But I can't justify spending a good chunk of change on a skirt that will be out of style in 6 months when I have 10 perfectly fine skirts lining my closet. So I decided to figure out a way to turn what I already got into what I want. Turns out, it's not that hard to make your own high-waisted skirt. Even for crafty rejects like myself. Jump over to the CollegeCandy blog for the quick & simple step-by-step!

Goodbye Lauren Conrad, Hello Pretty Blue Dresses!

When technology breaks down like my laptop did last week, I realized I had more downtime so I could finally finish up my DVR recordings of "The Hills." As much as the show annoys me and I know it's not real, I can't stop watching -- it's my guilty pleasure! Anyway, In her "Hills" goodbye episode, Lauren Conrad wears this adorable blue Valentino dress. Although the dress itself is cute, what really caught my eye was how stunning the shade of blue is. I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of this rich, versatile color. Some of my favorite dress picks in this particular shade include the Fiumicelli Reversible Cami dress, the Loeffler Randall pocket dress, and this Laila Azhar one-shoulder dress, all available at Shopbop!
