Ready, Set, Prep: The Best Makeup Primers For Your Eyes, ...

    image
Alex Gambardella on Aug 5, 2009 8:23 AM PDT
As the ultimate makeup junkie, I have a tough time saying no to a new shadow shade, lip color, or nail hue... and it certainly shows in my inability to organize it all. But now that my makeup collection has successfully taken over every drawer, zip case, surface, nook and cranny of my humble abode, I'm starting to resist the urge to buy more and more pots of colors that I'll probably never use more than once. Instead, I've narrowed my focus to scouting out the newest and best priming products that can help make the most of the colors I already have for easy application, flawless appearance, and maximum smudge-free wear all day long. I love the way Smashbox's face primer gives my skin a smoother, even tone and a less oily-looking complexion under my powder, and now that I've tried Urban Decay's eyeshadow primer potion, I can't understand how I lived without it in the first place! Designed to target specific problem areas like the appearance of pores, uneven redness, or runny eyes, today's best primers are bound to keep your makeup in check and have you looking like a million bucks, even with the same shades you already have! Check the slideshow to see a slew of splurge-worthy products that can help keep your makeup in place on your eyes, lips, lashes, and face!

Portable Beauty Products For Glamming On The Go!

    image

If you were to take a look into my purse, you'd realize instantly that it's actually just my makeup bag in disguise, crammed to the zipper with all kinds of cumbersome, clunky products and their accompanying brushes that I threw in at the last-minute for use in a makeup emergency that never actually happens, or in the rare occurrence in which I would find myself forced to open up my own MAC counter in the middle of the street at any given moment. The truth is, I only end up actually using a select few of the whole array of knick-knacks I haul along with me every day, and even though I come across plenty of opportunities for touch-ups at various points in my daily routine, less than half of the tools and products are actually practical for portable use while on a bumpy bus ride or while standing in line for coffee with your hands full. Luckily, plenty of our favorite beauty brands have caught on to this busy-girl dilemma and have developed "to-go" versions of their most popular must-have beauty basics, making their products much more travel-friendly (no brushes or applicators required!), genuinely usable anytime anywhere, and overall much more low-maintenance! With conveniently sleek nail polish pens by OPI, self-sharpening lip pencils, and even a wireless mini flat iron, you'll find yourself saving room in your purse and your makeup bag, not to mention looking your best the whole day through! Check the slideshow for more beauty products for the busy gal!

Winter Beauty Tip- Try A Darker Than Dark Lip Gloss!

    image

Darker than dark lip gloss is going to be all the rage this winter. It was seen on the YSL runway where Stefano Pilati sent the models out sporting an eye covering black bob and glossed black lips. Always a fan of all things punk rock and slightly rebellious, I am hopping on the trend. A lacquered black cherry lip looks perfectly ladylike with the tailored dark looks dominating the runways, but avoid wearing it with anything too grungy or held together with safety pins or you run the risk of looking like Marilyn Manson. Just in case you're still on the wait list for YSL's Pur Black gloss (which sold out of stores earlier this month), here some other options. Lancome has its own version, called Piha Black, a limited-edition offering available this month at Bloomingdale's and on their website. The set retails for $48 and comes paired with red lipstick. Lipstick Queen, known mostly for her great red lipsticks, has also come up with her version called "Black Tie Optional," A sheer black lipstick and gloss made to wear on its own or over another lipstick for more depth. Get them quick before they ALL sell out!

StyleNews: Department Store Beauty Lawsuit Means Free Cosmetics!

Ever notice how the price of Chanel No. 5 is always the same? You're not the only one. According to a class action lawsuit beauty products are priced too high, and one accusation goes as far as to claim that department stores conspire to never discount their higher-end products. Whether you agree or not, you're probably eligible for free cosmetics as part of the settlement-- no proof or receipt necessary! To receive more information on how to cash in on the $175 million lawsuit, go here. You'll be notified when the giveaway starts, and then all you have to do is hop in line and you'll get your $25 in products. Does this mean brands in question like Chanel, Calvin Klein, MAC, and Lancome will be lowering prices? Of course not, but you can bet we'll be in line anyway. Ah, the price of staying pretty.
