LA Fashion Week: Nonja McKenzie's Flirty-Femme Spring Collection

Local LA stylist turned designer Nonja McKenzie shined at Mercedes-Benz LA Fashion Week with her shimmering Spring '09 collection of beaded shifts, satin tops, and silk jumpsuits. Lame and chiffon butterfly-sleeve tops fluttered down the runway, followed by an array of sixties and seventies inspired dresses in soft fabrics and buttery colors. A plethora of flattering wrap dresses with flirtatious ties swinging to and fro brought a certain girlish charm to the collection, while leopard print and silk halter jumpsuits added the necessary sex appeal. Nonja revamped long-sleeved minidresses and body-conscious asymmetrical dresses with ruching down the sides of sleeves and skirts, but her beadwork stole the show with beaded shifts, billowing tops, and my personal favorite--a black and silver beaded eyelash minidress! LA Fashion Week: Ooh La La! Samora Sends Us Swooning

If Holly Golightly had divided her time between New York and Paris, then the clothes from designer Samora Olayan would be perfect for all her Parisian getaways. It was hard to miss the giant Eiffel Tower backdrop and pink bicycle with flowers in the basket at the beginning of her runway show at Mercedes-Benz LA Fashion Week. With that in mind, Samora definitely captured the essence of the carefree Paris all of us would love to have in our day to day lives. Romantic ruffles were everywhere to be seen on the runway from the necklines, waistlines, and hemlines! Mint green, pink, white, and black were the colors of choice in light and airy (sometimes sheer!) fabrics. Another trend to be aware of for Spring 2009 are lady-like wrist length and half gloves. Crispin & Basilio€™s Spring 2009 Collection walked out of a cloud and onto a runway. The heavenly designs, in creme and taupes, silks and satins, waltzed and sauntered down the runway. Sheer, draping fabrics, in day and evening looks, weren€™t just the stuff of imagination: these fashions are real and accessible to daily wear. One of our favorite day looks was a simple taupe cardigan over a lightly-sequined off-white skirt. The effect was glamour without the fuss. The charming sophistication of the entire line is a clear signal that Crispin & Basilio is here to stay with easy elegance. If Grace Kelly, Katharine Hepburn and Lauren Bacall had been our contemporaries, there is no doubt they would fanatically clothe themselves in Kevan Hall's Spring 2009 Collection. Classic silhouettes met surprising, exquisite details for a collection that can only be described as unified and gorgeous. In soft browns, pinks, greens, blues and yellows, the collection showed variety in color, with subtle, flattering shapes enhanced by sparkling adornment. From a casual black and white gingham over slim pants day look to a simply stunning high neck navy belted evening gown with meticulous fabric square detailing, Kevan Hall is sure to be a staple of the 2009 award season, as well as a hit among the ladies who lunch. LA Fashion Week: Gen Art And SOYJOY's Exclusive "Fashionably ...

Last week, Gen Art and SOYJOY launched LA Fashion Week with an exclusive runway show called "Fashionably Natural." Hosted by Maggie Gyllenhaal, the event showcased four emerging designers, Brigid Catiis, Popomomo, The Battalion, and Velvet Leaf, who only work with all-natural and eco-friendly fabrics and materials. The variety of fabrics used included brightly colored soy and bamboo jersey, silk, and organic cotton showed that having eco-friendly clothing doesn't mean you have to settle for boring old beige. Afterwards, celebrities like Willa Holland and Krysten Ritter joined natural-living enthusiasts for an bustling after-party. LA Fashion Week: Lauren Conrad Captures Carefree California ...

Lauren Conrad ditched the cameras of her MTV reality series The Hills, turning the spotlight on her Spring 2009 Collection at Mercedes Benz LA Fashion Week. Of course LC stayed true to her classic California girl style with flowing lightweight fabrics on both mini and maxi length strapless dresses that are sure to travel from beach to chic in no time. Aside from a bold floral print making its way onto a few dresses, Lauren kept her pieces monochromatic, using black, white, a subtle mauve, taupe, and a muted cobalt blue.
