Bag Of The Week: The Kooba 'Jagger' Bag

I'm sure I'm not the only one by far, but I am guilty of having an extensive handbag collection of all different shapes and styles. In recent years, however, I have matured from snatching up any cute purse and taking it home, only to realize that it doesn't actually match anything I own and have it just sit there until I obtain an outfit that goes with it. Instead, I have wised up and learned to invest in a well-made, high-quality piece that is versatile and convenient, as well as trendy but classic at the same time. That may seem like a lot to ask from one bag, but the 'Jagger' bag from the Kooba Holiday '09 Collection easily delivers all those qualities. The soft leather, the subtly edgy zipper detail and the classic shape make the Kooba 'Jagger' Bag a must-have bag that works for so many occasions from work to play and back again. Plus, it comes in a variety of colors, meaning you can choose the best look for you, so make room for this pretty bag in your purse family!

What: the Kooba 'Jagger' Holiday '09 Bag
    Price: $595.00

Cute Convertible Clutches Are Two (Or More!) Purses In One!

I'm the kind of girl at the club who has her purse glued under her arm all night long. You know, the one bumping into everyone and knocking over everybody's drinks when I turn around -- not because I can't walk in my heels, but because my handbag is jutting out dangerously from my side. I don't know what it is, but while all my friends trade in their oversized satchels for a nice compact clutch with just their night-out necessities, I just can't jump on the bandwagon. I mean, sure, it's space-saving, but then you actually have to hold it all night long. And who wants to sacrifice a perfectly good cocktail-holding hand for the sake of a smaller purse? That's why I'm all about these convertible clutches. Equipped with either a removable chain strap or fold-over minimizing capabilities (or both), these little multitaskers can serve as totes, mini-shoulder bags, or coin purses in addition to clutches and can transform from one to the other in seconds with just a simple snap of a button or unhinging of a clasp! Take a look at the slideshow for a selection of my favorite multifunctional transforming clutches!

Saks Fifth Avenue Hosts Contemporary Accessories Breakfast In NYC

Bagels and lox might be many people's preferred morning meal but on Thursday, October 15, the menu was bagels and Botkier as Saks Fifth Avenue hosted a special contemporary accessories breakfast for bloggers at their Fifth Avenue flagship store. New pieces from Marc by Marc Jacobs, Chan Luu, Rebecca Minkoff, and Belle by Sigerson Morrison, among others, were just some of the tasty choices on order. Beyond the inspired idea of collectively featuring shoes and handbags to compare and contrast each designer's work, what the event also helped highlight is how very heavily labels are relying on accessories to carry them through a tough fall and winter: the vast majority of the pieces were both well-designed and functional. Take, for example, Kooba: gone are the whimsical, unwieldy shapes of seasons past, and in their place far more structured, wearable silhouettes in subdued yet elegant colors. There were pops of color within the resort pieces, of course (a patent neon orange Rebecca Minkoff was a fave), but even those items retained a classic sensibility that makes it clear this is a time when people are looking for quality investment pieces that will go the distance in their closets. Practical materials such as rubber, thick leather, and viscose abounded yet no one scrimped on style--and everything remained at a reasonable contemporary price point. Take a look at the slideshow for some of the standouts.

Embrace the '90s With A Drawstring Bag!

Ever since Alexander Wang came out with his handbag line, the too-cool totes have been seen on celebs from Mary-Kate Olsen to Kristin Cavallari, blogged about to death, and coveted by yours truly. One of my favorites was the 'Diego' bag-- a drawstring bucket bag that would have been perfect with any outfit! Alas, it's been long sold out everywhere so I've been on the hunt ever since. Drawstring bags always remind me of the purses my mother had in the 90s, so while their modern cousins have retro roots, they're totally current and fashion-forward. Drawstring closures are handy when you need to pack a whole day's worth of stuff without jamming a zipper. Best of all, they come in all different styles from totes to hobo bags! I've been eyeing the Classic Parina Bag by Gustto in bright yellow. Urban Outfitters offers an affordable alternative to the famed Alexander Wang bag with the Deux Lux Drawstring Bucket Bag. Get More Value with a Convertible Handbag!

Handbags are my true weakness. Okay, and shoes, and accessories, okay FASHION. But handbags, I love. To get more mileage out of a bag purchase, I've been looking to buy one of the fall's convertible bags. You know, something that goes from shoulder to tote, or hobo to hip-slung with a quick switch of a strap. I love the color, texture and bohemian simplicity of the Kooba tied convertible hobo bag. And I feel like I could honestly carry this Foley + Corinna convertible small leather tote in red almost every day. It goes from shoulder to tote so flawlessly, and the scale is just adorable. Check out my slideshow for lots of other handbags that work hard for you!

Purple Handbags Are A Must Have for Fall

Stand out from a sea of black! Rich hues are in this fall, so why not give your outfit a pop of color with a purple handbag? I love this Kooba Amber Shoulder bag ($545 at Neiman Marcus) for it's roomy size, not so flashy gold hardware, and cool looking bow detail. The Caroline Shoulder Bag (On Sale for $169 at Neiman Marcus) with watersnake skin gives a glamorous touch to an everyday bag. Finally, the Marc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Huge Hillier Leather Hobo ($498 at Bloomingdales) is sleek, roomy, and versatile with two strap lengths. Check out Coquette for more stylish purple bags for fall.
