Comfy Cashmere Sweaters Without The Campy Christmas Prints

    image
Alex Gambardella on Nov 16, 2009 2:18 PM PST
Sure, cashmere is soft and luxurious -- just the kind of warm-weather material we crave during the cold winter months. But for some reason, whenever I think of the idea of a cashmere sweater, I can't help but be haunted by my childhood memories of unwrapping my Christmas gift from Grandma and finding (to my utter dismay) a chunky cable-knit creation with a dilapidated Christmas tree on its front. However, now that I'm old enough to appreciate (and prefer) clothing gifts in place of toys, I know that there's more to cashmere than ugly holiday prints and Abercrombie & Fitch pull-overs with a sewn-on moose logo. Switch out your sweatshirt hoodie with a cashmere version from Free People that's still casual but way more cozy. Or, if you're not afraid to look festive, this embellished LaROK cardigan isn't too kitschy, but it's still snazzy enough for a low-key holiday party. For more ways to get comfy this season without looking like a Christmas card, watch the slideshow!

If you're having a hard time justifying all the inevitably expensive holiday gift-shopping this year in light of our current economic state, how about opting for a present that truly gives back? Famed accessories brand Kate Spade has recently formed a partnership with Women for Women International known as the Hand In Hand program, which employs war survivors from Bosnia, giving them a chance to get their future back on track. The result? A collection of hand-knit winter accessories, including these Colorblock Mittens, that keep you warm during the dreary weather ahead while the proceeds help women abroad rebuild their lives. If that's not incentive to spread some Christmas joy this season despite your dismal paycheck, I don't know what is!

    Price: $95
Who Found It: xgalexy was the first to add the Hand In Hand Mittens to the Hive.

    What's Next For Alexander Wang?

You all know Alexander Wang by now, the fashion wunderkind who started his namesake line by his second year of design school in 2007. In 2008 he conquered the shoe and handbag market- how's an 800 person waiting list for proof? In 2009, he added t-shirts with his coveted knitwear line T by Alexander Wang. What's next-- world domination? Maybe not quite, but as far as we're concerned he's getting pretty close. With the success of his T line, he's adding more styles that go beyond the perfectly fitted slouchy tee and tank. He is debuting some men's styles too-- think well-worn t-shirts, casual tanks and button-downs, and some cool leather shorts. As if that isn't enough to have our tails wagging, Spring 2010 also brings us a new line of shades in collaboration with Linda Farrow, which Wang unveiled during his Sept fashion week show. Check out the slideshow to see some of the sunglasses and men's looks!

Gotta Getaway? Edinburgh's Missoni Hotel Brings Knitwear To ...

    image

Now fashionistas have a place to stay in Edinburgh! Hotel Missoni has finally opened on the Royal Mile and there are more of them to come all over the world. At 74, Rosita Missoni, the doyenne of the Italian knitwear dynasty, has set out to start a chain of boutique hotels. Each hotel is the expression of her creative and artistic vision and sets out to bring out the warmth and color of an Italian family home but with a twist. In signature Missoni style, you're bound to find plenty of bright saturated colors, stripes, and of course, tons of Missoni zig zags. The hotel promises "the warmth and passion of an Italian home," and no Italian home would be complete without a great restaurant serving modern Italian fare. At the Edinburgh location the waiters even wear Missoni kilts while they provide stellar service at Cucina Missoni. Now if only the closet came stocked with Missoni's newest collection... that would make it pure heaven! Not planning on being in Edinburgh anytime soon? You can check out their hotels opening soon in Kuwait, Cape Town and Oman! Check out some of the gorgeous rooms in the slideshow.
