    What's Next For Alexander Wang?

    image
Pauline Montupet on Oct 20, 2009 4:24 PM PDT
You all know Alexander Wang by now, the fashion wunderkind who started his namesake line by his second year of design school in 2007. In 2008 he conquered the shoe and handbag market- how's an 800 person waiting list for proof? In 2009, he added t-shirts with his coveted knitwear line T by Alexander Wang. What's next-- world domination? Maybe not quite, but as far as we're concerned he's getting pretty close. With the success of his T line, he's adding more styles that go beyond the perfectly fitted slouchy tee and tank. He is debuting some men's styles too-- think well-worn t-shirts, casual tanks and button-downs, and some cool leather shorts. As if that isn't enough to have our tails wagging, Spring 2010 also brings us a new line of shades in collaboration with Linda Farrow, which Wang unveiled during his Sept fashion week show. Check out the slideshow to see some of the sunglasses and men's looks!

Gotta Getaway? Edinburgh's Missoni Hotel Brings Knitwear To ...

    image

Now fashionistas have a place to stay in Edinburgh! Hotel Missoni has finally opened on the Royal Mile and there are more of them to come all over the world. At 74, Rosita Missoni, the doyenne of the Italian knitwear dynasty, has set out to start a chain of boutique hotels. Each hotel is the expression of her creative and artistic vision and sets out to bring out the warmth and color of an Italian family home but with a twist. In signature Missoni style, you're bound to find plenty of bright saturated colors, stripes, and of course, tons of Missoni zig zags. The hotel promises "the warmth and passion of an Italian home," and no Italian home would be complete without a great restaurant serving modern Italian fare. At the Edinburgh location the waiters even wear Missoni kilts while they provide stellar service at Cucina Missoni. Now if only the closet came stocked with Missoni's newest collection... that would make it pure heaven! Not planning on being in Edinburgh anytime soon? You can check out their hotels opening soon in Kuwait, Cape Town and Oman! Check out some of the gorgeous rooms in the slideshow.

Academy Of Art University Runway: Scott McFarland Makes ...

Scott McFarland uses his fine talents as a sculptor to mold yarn into some knitwear. For men. In light shades of pink. Before all you manly men grunt this off and go shotgun a beer, hear me out. McFarland has a distinct eye when it comes to fashion and knitwear design. His collection (which was also shown at New York Fashion Week in February) ingeniously contains knitwear inspired by Art Deco patterns, metal work, architecture and '20s androgyny. The chunky knit coats and sweaters are infused with patterns of diamonds and three-dimensional texture that give each piece a whimsical personality. His vision is cohesive, but the experimental knitting techniques are discreet. Besides being a maestro with fine-quality yarn, McFarland created his own yarn by cutting lace fabric into strips and hand knitting them into heavier knits for his outsized coats. The color palette of pale pinks, grays and blues are soft, but the construction of the collection is very strong. In other words, it has the sensitivity for a woman and the swagger of a gentleman. With each piece you can't help but be intrigued by McFarland's knitwear. Any modern dapper gentleman would get pulled into this orbit and wouldn't mind taking some of his brilliant pieces of clothing for a test drive. Hot In The Hive: Yokoo's Chunky Knit Scarves On Etsy!

Out here in Chicago, it can seem like the winter might last forever. Yokoo has me wishing it does! All of her unique handmade scarf creations are acrylic and wool blend chunky knits. The scarves are all oversized - perfect for wrapping up and keeping cozy. One of my favorites is the giant Oatmeal SoopaScarf - it looks like it could keep you AND a friend warm all winter! I also really love the comical vibe and the bright citron color of the English Thompson scarf. For a completely different look, check out the Soopa Chain scarf, sure to be a conversation starter. All of her items take two to three weeks to make, and are definitely worth the wait. Check her out on etsy.com!
