Academy Of Art University Runway: Scott McFarland Makes ...

Scott McFarland uses his fine talents as a sculptor to mold yarn into some knitwear. For men. In light shades of pink. Before all you manly men grunt this off and go shotgun a beer, hear me out. McFarland has a distinct eye when it comes to fashion and knitwear design. His collection (which was also shown at New York Fashion Week in February) ingeniously contains knitwear inspired by Art Deco patterns, metal work, architecture and '20s androgyny. The chunky knit coats and sweaters are infused with patterns of diamonds and three-dimensional texture that give each piece a whimsical personality. His vision is cohesive, but the experimental knitting techniques are discreet. Besides being a maestro with fine-quality yarn, McFarland created his own yarn by cutting lace fabric into strips and hand knitting them into heavier knits for his outsized coats. The color palette of pale pinks, grays and blues are soft, but the construction of the collection is very strong. In other words, it has the sensitivity for a woman and the swagger of a gentleman. With each piece you can't help but be intrigued by McFarland's knitwear. Any modern dapper gentleman would get pulled into this orbit and wouldn't mind taking some of his brilliant pieces of clothing for a test drive. Meet Koi Suwannagate, Stylehive's Next Big Thing!

Fashion designer Koi Suwannagate first came to my attention when she collaborated with Phillip Lim for his Spring 2007 collection (remember those rosette dresses that were sold out everywhere?). Also in 2007, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and Vogue chose the designer as a finalist for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award. Born in Bangkok and now designing out of Los Angeles, Koi is known for her romantic designs and signature draped cashmere pieces. It's easy to see why Kirsten Dunst, Oprah Winfrey and Christina Ricci have all worn pieces by Koi! We got a chance to talk to Koi, amidst her busy schedule, about who her favorite designers are and what we can expect from her next! Read on to see the interview and check out the slideshow to see her favorite pieces from her Spring collection, as well as a few beautiful looks that you can purchase from her online store.

New York Fashion Week Runway: Diane von Furstenberg Takes Us ...

The fashion world may be collective slump in this economy, but trust Diane von Furstenberg to bring a dash of optimism, texture and color while others fall back on dark and somber colors. DvF's trademark prints were in full force from a luxurious velvet leopard-print dress to chunky coats and cardigans all layered over solid or printed leggings. The loose silhouettes make way for layering and mixing prints with endless possibilities. And don't forget the pom-pom covered knit hats, embroidery and sequin details! Beauty trends to take note are neutral colored eye shadows, sheer pink lips and loose hair. One thing's for sure, Diane von Furstenberg sure knows how to keep the discerning fashionista in style and comfort whether dancing the night away at Studio 54 or traveling off to faraway lands.

Out here in Chicago, it can seem like the winter might last forever. Yokoo has me wishing it does! All of her unique handmade scarf creations are acrylic and wool blend chunky knits. The scarves are all oversized - perfect for wrapping up and keeping cozy. One of my favorites is the giant Oatmeal SoopaScarf - it looks like it could keep you AND a friend warm all winter! I also really love the comical vibe and the bright citron color of the English Thompson scarf. For a completely different look, check out the Soopa Chain scarf, sure to be a conversation starter. All of her items take two to three weeks to make, and are definitely worth the wait. Check her out on etsy.com!

Brave The Elements In A Cozy Chic Scarf!

Thank God it's cold outside! This gives me a chance to rummage through my collection of scarves and wrap one around my neck to protect me from the elements. In fact, whenever it's just a bit brisk out, I bust out one of my scarves just so I can wear it. There's just something about a long piece of fabric wrapped around my neck that makes me feel so chic and refined. I especially like thick scarves €“ like that chunky Maison Martin Margiela knit masterpiece. If you want something a little more subdued, Gap is always a good resource for the classic stripes and American Eagle has this snazzy, modernized fair isle number. For all you stylish Che Guevara t-shirt wearing radicals out there, try the Psycho Bunny Beatles Revolution scarf on for size (it's cashmere so you will feel extra fancy). But if you really want something adventurous you can pay a visit to Hogwarts School of Wizardry for a nice souvenir Gryffindor scarf, perfect for a round of Quidditch. Okay, just joking. Here are some other scarves to keep you warm.

    Beanies For The Boys

I shave my head every two weeks, so with the winter season coming into full swing, you know I am always looking for something to keep my head of stubble warm. Like a baby, I have my favorite security beanie. Even though it is on its last leg, I refuse to get rid of the reversible (it's black on one side and argyle on the other) head warmer. But alas, I think it may be time for me (and you) to invest in a nice beanie. Sure, a solid colored one is safe, but why not go for something a little bit more adventurous? A chunky knit beanie lets off a "just like grandma used to make" vibe, while a head-hugging knit cap with an oversized logo is street-chic and whimsical. No matter you decide, pick one that is not only versatile, but matches your personality. P.S. €“ Check out the Humping Moose Peruvian Beanie from Urban Outfitters €“ that's for all you shameless freaky people out there.
