Khaki Suits Keep It Cool In The Spring And Summer

    image

A khaki suit is like a refreshing beverage on a warm day. It's crisp. It's light and it suits (no pun intended) the season. As the cooler seasons come to a close, put your black suit on the back burner and go for some lighter fare. A suit within the color palette of khaki can look just as good and sleek as a black suit. Another bonus for the khaki garb is that a lot of them are sold as separates and there's more versatility with the pieces-- but personally, I like to keep them all together. I have a separate black and khaki blazer that I use as my fail-safe separate. With the Ralph Lauren Rugby Newbury Chino suit, you can look like the perfect dandy and with a classic Brooks Brothers two-button poplin suit you can be the refined gentleman you were meant to be. A khaki or tan suit has this "happy-go-lucky" vibe that shines with the sun. With the right shirt, tie and pocket square, a lighter suit is a must for the spring and summer seasons. Check out the slideshow for some of these cool suits that are a lighter shade of brown.

Gap's Latest CFDA Collab: Alexander Wang!

Got Alexander Wang taste on a Gap budget? Soon, you'll actually be able to do something about it- something that doesn't involve eBay and shady Forever21 knockoffs. Following in the footsteps of previous Gap collabs like Pierre Hardy, threeASFOUR, and Phillip Lim, Wang will debut his Gap collection in stores on June 16. So what can we expect the guru of grunge to do with a traditional white shirt? Absolutely nothing, according to Gap's Executive Vice President of Design, Patrick Robinson. The collection instead will focus on khaki, and as of now the standout piece will be a khaki motorcycle jacket that will retail for under $100. I'm not sure what's more distant, the last time I wore khaki or the last time I set foot in the store (even though it's on every corner), but who knows, maybe I'll be falling into Gap for some cheapy collab action. Will you? [Teen Vogue via Fashionologie]

Head For Neutral Territory: Earthy Looks For Men

    image

I have a philosophy that men should have a solid assortment of neutral-colored pieces in their wardrobe-- and when I say neutral, I am not just referring to black. I am referring to the earthy prismatic rainbow that includes gray, khaki, brown, navy and, of course, the good ol' standby, black. Choosing neutral pieces is like picking a canvas for you to paint on. When choosing something like a Ralph Lauren poplin barrel shirt, think of a pop of color that would compliment it (I'll go over choosing fun colors later). The best thing about neutral colored clothing is that it goes with just about everything, which makes it anything but boring. You can even go with neutral accessories that stand in the background of your colorful garb. A khaki Kenneth Cole messenger bag is a universal accessory as is the neutral colorblock tie by Thomas Pink. The trick about neutrals is to have a balance, because if you wear too much black, you run the risk of looking like an undertaker-- and no one wants that. Take a look at my slideshow for more neutrals to choose from.

Recession Chic: Stylish And Classic Trench Coats At Every Price

Anyone who knows me personally knows that I love my basics. From simple and well-cut t-shirts to ballet flats in every color, I own them all. In today's economy, this is actually one of the best times to buy high quality basics because retailers are more likely to sell clothes people would actually buy and wear. Which leads me to a almost year round staple-- the trench coat. From modern day celebs like Katie Holmes and Hayden Panettiere to icons such as Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn (remember her trench at the end of Breakfast at Tiffany's?), the trench coat is everywhere and a must have in any modern woman's closet. Trench coats are available in a multitude of lengths and colors, but I decided to feature the ever classic khaki. Take a look at the double-breasted trench by Burberry, the originators in trench coats. Can't afford the nearly $1000 price tag? I've found 5 stylin' trench coats under $100 perfect for the spring. Curious? Click the slideshow to see them all!

Try Nude Colored Heels For A Naturally Stylish Look

Barefoot and beautiful! Well ... almost. 2009 brings on shoes with less bling and something a little more natural -- or, rather, natural-toned. Katie Holmes recently sported some nearly-naked colored Stuart Weitzman shoes, but the skin-hued heels have been gracing carpets of all kinds from some other Hollywood favorites like Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, Salma Hayek, Debra Messing and Penelope Cruz. For a shoe that goes with any outfit, these ladies kicked off their color and opted for tones that blended right in. It may take a minute or so to find the right color for you, so don't take just one specific pick as the last word over a shoe that will match best. A fairer skin may find that a beige colored shoe is the best blend, while one that's a camel toned may be just what's needed to look seamless on a darker skin. For legs that look like they go on forever, take a cue from some famous fashion moguls and find some flesh-fitting kicks in my slideshow!
