When it comes to shopping, I'm not usually a creature of habit -- I tend to shop when and where the mood strikes. I do, however, have three annual fashion traditions: I always buy something new to wear on my birthday and New Year's Eve (something about turning over a new leaf, I suppose), and I always buy a new bikini in the summer. This year, in the spirit of saving the world while perfecting my tan, I'm stoked to see there are lots of "green" bikinis on the market. Bikini designers are using eco-friendly materials like organic cotton, bamboo, soy, and even factory surplus materials from a factory that made Olympic speed skater outfits! I'm glad to see someone's thinking about responsible beach fun, complete with cute side-ties and ruffles! Check out my SLIDESHOW of 6 eco-friendly bikinis and hit the beach in savvy style...

So, did you hear? Green is the new black! More and more designers are thinking about the impact their clothes can have, for better or worse, on the environment, and the result is a slew of fabulous, earth-friendly lines that allow fashionistas to save the world in style. Lines that use organic fabric or sustainable materials like bamboo include Beau Soleil, Linda Loudermilk, Edun, Stewart & Brown, and Doie. And designers who have recently (or long ago) announced they will not use fur in their lines include Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Rebecca Taylor, Betsey Johnson, Kenneth Cole, Nicole Miller, and Stella McCartney. Check out our slide show for the hottest green fashion!
