Jersey Dresses That Take You Into Fall!

    image
DIY thing on Aug 24, 2009 8:24 AM PDT
The transition between summer and fall is a favorite time for wearing jersey dresses. It is so easy to dress them up or down! We found some darling ones this week from some great indie designers. Deirdra Morgan of Punkin NYC has a gorgeous blue Italian cotton jersey for sale at Smashing Darling. Eco-friendly choices are plentiful this season-- check out OrganiK Revolution's soy jersey dress with the added mock collar detail. Gina Michele has several you should check out - the cute racer-back dress, Manhattan Madness, and a personal favorite, the draped front La Vita e Bella with its braided tie and back collar. Our friends at Etsy have some fun jersey dresses as well. SDN1982's soy jersey black wrap dress is very versatile. And Sandmaiden's Etsy shop always has great bamboo/cotton dresses. First dates are nerve-wracking in all kinds of ways. You're stressed if the guy will like you, if your hair is going to do that weird flippy thing it sometimes does, and most importantly, if your outfit is just right. Well, have no fear, for I have developed a guide to dressing for the occasion. These outfits are perfect for casual restaurants, movies, mini golf -- almost anytime! Remember to wear your most flattering jeans with this beaded tank from Banana Republic, and your outfit is sure to sparkle just as much as your eyes! Or for a cooler evening, pair this flirty ruffle wrap cardigan from Gap with white jeans or skinnies and boots for a great look! Personally, I think the best way to look cute and casually put together is by throwing on a cotton jersey dress and your favorite flats or sandals. Try this ruffle tube dress from Urban Outfitters, sure to hug your body in all the right places. Check out my slideshow for lots of casual first-date-fits!

I love American Apparel and their comfy jersey knit basics. From their basic crew neck tees, to their sleek leggings and edgy shift dresses, what's not to love? And yes, this is the brand known for its sweat-shop free fair labor manufacturing - made in Downtown LA. Their latest wardrobe gem is the rib racerback dress, which can be worn in so many different ways, you'll be wearing it all summer long. Work it with a slouchy belted cardigan and leggings. For ultra-warm weather, pair with just a pair of Havaianas flip-flops. This is the ultimate dress for un-layering. The American Apparel rib racerback dress is a true value, perfectly priced at $26. Designer Stella McCartney's latest capsule collection has us floating on air. Exclusive to Net-a-Porter, Stella's exclusive collection features a graphic cloud print by Sir Peter Blake. Blake is one of Britain's most well-known pop artists and is famous for The Beatles' album sleeve for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. And to think that Sir Peter Blake was paid only a pittance (200 pounds) for the 1967 album! Stella's Sir Peter Blake cloud-print collection features a dress made of silk jersey, which takes on an ethereal summery feel with its flowing draped sleeves, a deep V-neck and a self-tie sash at waist. Other pieces include an organic cotton tee, wedge tie espadrille wedges and cloud-print tote. Check out our friends at TheFind for more info and other hot fashion finds!

Jet Set Travel Essential: White And Warren's Travel Wrap

I love having something cozy to travel in. I always cram the most I can into the smallest amount of space. This "something cozy" must be light weight, wrinkle-free and easily rolled then shoved into my carry on. I've found the perfect thing: the White and Warren Travel Wrap. At first I thought it was one of those drapey, wrappy cardigans, but it's actually a long, luscious scarf made out of comfy jersey t-shirt fabric. And it comes in just about any color you can imagine, so it helps make your travel outfit that much more fashionable. You could easily get away with wearing a black tunic and leggings, or a jeans and a white tank and throwing one of these on. The travel wrap is long and wide and can double as a travel throw, but since it's made of t-shirt fabric it can easily fit in small spaces. Scarves are a must-have when traveling and flying, and this one is a perfect addition to your airplane wardrobe - plus it'll be great to have when you get to your destination, too, whether it's winter or summer! Spindle & Canister: Getting Men's Basics Right

    image
Millissa on Apr 9, 2009 2:26 PM PDT
As dichotomous as it may sound, the truth is that it is often the most basic of designs that are the hardest to perfect. Additionally, making sure that one's basic garments are of a high quality is essential to building a wardrobe that is fully functional and stylish. The debut Spring/Summer '09 collection of Spindle & Canister, created by Los Angeles based designer, Temitayo Abidoye, seeks to create classically inspired pieces that fit seamlessly and comfortably into the modern man's wardrobe. Abidoye pays careful attention to getting the basics correct in order to create a line of investment worthy pieces. The use of quality fabrics including jersey, thermal and cashmere provide a luxurious warmth and comfort to the collection. Not only does one note the pre-shrunken fabrics, but the smaller details such as the worn buttons also help to create a more coherent look to the pieces. The slimmer, fitted profile of the garments, which flatter the wearer and also manage to provide a more modern silhouette, means that any Spindle & Canister garment would make a perfect addition to any man's wardrobe!
