Don't you just love seeing Project Runway castoffs rise from the ashes and really do something with their talent? We've seen plenty of Christian Siriano in the fashion week circuit, and even some strange Santino Rice cameos on various reality shows.. but now it's Jerell Scott's turn. The season 5 veteran launched his Fall 2009 collection at One Take Studio in downtown LA this past weekend over drinks and hors d'oeuvres... and an opening performance by Macy Gray! The intimate venue provided guests with an up-close look at the collection, including an accompanying photo exhibit by E Leon Myers and even an exclusive sneak preview at his upcoming Spring 2010 line. Inspired by indigenous people all over the world, the collection boasted flowing fabrics, bold prints and an undeniable tribal energy that foreshadowed many innovative and promising things to come from the designer! Take a look at the slideshow for some pictures of the event and his collection!

Well, no shortage of surprises here- after last week's Project Runway episode which left all of the designers going home to design collections in spite of Jerell's win, the remaining four set to work on their 10 piece collections- which needed to include a coordinating wedding dress- though only three designers would actually compete at Bryant Park. With two months and $8,000 to spend, it was clear they'd have to really go the distance, and go they did- Korto headed home to Little Rock, Leanne set up her workspace back in Portland, Jerell found himself back in LA, and Kenley got to work back in Brooklyn. Tim visited each of the designers, lending advice while gaining insight into their lives off the show, but the relative calm was nowhere to be found as the designers returned to New York and yet another addition to the challenge was revealed merely six days before their collections were to be finished- they'd each have to design an accompanying bridesmaid's dress. Exhaustion and emotions took hold as the final four put the finishing touches on their work, and soon it was all in the judges' hands. Two designers were told right off the bat that were still in, in spite of one particular dress that deemed a bit too reminiscent of an Alexander McQueen gown, and as for the other two, it just wasn't as clear who would stay and who would go. As if being one of the five remaining designers wasn't enough pressure in itself, this week's Project Runway challenge had the final contenders stepping into a dual role- they would each be designing a look inspired by a musical genre. Their client? A fellow contestant. Time flew by as they struggled to play designer and model all at once, and the pressure manifested itself in all sorts of ways- Leanne embraced her hip-hop persona with a hilarious rap, Korto started feeling the country twang, and Kenley, despite being outfitted in a getup that was purely pop, had an attitude that was quite the opposite. When it was time for Heidi, Michael, Nina, and guest judge LL Cool J to weigh in, it seemed as if many missed the mark- some held back in their designs for fear of going over the top, while others decided going all out was what it would take to win. Kenley's frustrations flared, and Kors' comments were some for the record books- specifically towards Leanne's design for Korto's country persona ("It looks too much like a woman going out for ribs") and towards Suede's look for Jerell ("It looks like rock n' roll going to the grocery store"). In the end, the win went to Korto, whose punk look for Suede was the perfect balance of over the top and believable, and one unlucky designer saw that the outfit he created, while well put together, just wasn't enough. Tensions ran high during last night's "Project Runway" challenge as the designers were faced with creating an outfit for a recent college grad, with one caveat- the young grads' mothers would be present throughout the design process. Juggling the requests of the grads with the opinions of their moms all while staying within the lines of the challenge proved difficult for some, and with no immunity for the remaining six designers, there was no choice but to impress. Extra pressure came in the form of TRESemme stylist Jeanie Syfu's announcement that the winning look would be featured in Elle magazine, along with the appearance of guest judge Cynthia Rowley. With two days to work, $100 to spend, and plenty of opinions to uphold, the designers had their work cut out for them, but inspiration was not quite so plentiful. In the end, it was pretty clear that one of two would be auf'd. Read on for my exclusive interview and find out who it was!
