Top 10 Fabulous Bustier Dresses That Mix Structure With Sexiness

I don't care what my credit card statement reads -- I say it's never too early to pick out the perfect New Year's Eve dress (unless you plan to really let yourself go at the dinner table this holiday season -- yikes)! What I'm really loving for the cocktail party season ahead is bustier dresses -- a little reminiscent of Madonna's "Like A Virgin" days (in a cool way, of course), yet updated with more subtle hidden boning, chiffon layers, and fun florals and lace. Bustiers juxtapose conservative structure with a snug fit that without revealing too much, yet unlike an old-fashioned corset, you can actually breathe. Blur the lines between girly and edgy with this studded belt bustier from Forever 21, or go full-on flirty with this floaty strapless sheath by Donna Morgan. Browse through the slideshow for a selection of my favorite 10 bustier dresses!

New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Milly

The Milly Spring/Summer 2010 "Punk Meets Prep" collection was high on my list of Fashion Week favorites. This season, designer Michelle Smith mostly abandoned her signature bright shades and bold prints and opted for a palette primarily of black and ecru with the occasional pop of color. The collection stayed true to Milly's signature femme aesthetic but the sweetness was offset by an edgy, punk-rock sensibility. Floaty silhouettes were toughened up with studs, embellishments, and layered jewelry (all from Milly's new jewelry collection). There were plenty of signature Milly staples -- mini shifts, elbow-sleeve coats, delicate blouses, metallic jacquard -- but the rich shades and sexy shapes infused these classics with a fabulous edge and radiated a stronger sense of bold confidence. Some of my absolute favorites included all of the hand-beaded knit sweaters and tops, a strapless metallic jacquard corset mini dress, and a black silk gauze trapeze dress (I will definitely be snagging that one the second it hits the racks!). From uptown prep to downtown punk and everything in between, this collection was full of must-have pieces that are both modern and timeless -- take a look at the slideshow to check them out!

From Underwear To Outerwear, The Evolution Of The Corset

Corsetry has come a long way since the 15th century days of the handmaiden lacing the noblewoman so tightly that she could scarcely breathe. Corsets began as tools to shape a woman's body, permanently in many cases. They were hard, ugly, unbending and never meant to be seen €“ certainly not by men. While the modern corset is often used for the purpose of shaping, the effects are less permanent and the garment itself is usually meant to be viewed €“ often in the bedroom, but recent trends have corset like garments mixing with jeans and skirts as clubwear or even casualwear. Check out the SLIDESHOW for 5 corsets that look smashing on the outside!
