Grey Is Denim's Latest Color To Crave

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Aug 28, 2009 10:20 AM PDT
Last year's colored denim craze didn't exactly have me jumping for joy- I find electric blue skinny jeans absolutely terrifying. J.Crew has a knack for making denim look positively adorable in all sorts of pastel shades, but I'm convinced the appeal is all in the masterful styling and not the denim itself. So basically, while I want to like colored denim, I just can't. Besides, I prefer to think of denim as a canvas for the rest of my outfit- the more minimal, the better. The occasional distressing, fine. Studs and rhinestones, no thanks. So when I came across a crop of dusty grey denim at Madewell, I couldn't help but think I was on to something. Sure, they weren't your typical jeans, but they weren't your basic blue jeans either. They were noteworthy, but neutral all at once- in a word, they were perfect. Influential International Style: Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger knows what's up. As the female lead in Inglorious Basterds, as well as the less recent classics like Troy and Wicker Park, she never fails to sparkle in a performance. Although she won the Cannes Chopard Trophy in 2003, I have to say that her performance at Cannes this year really put her in the stratosphere. Her style is impeccable. She takes risks in interesting sleeves, cutaways, crazy patterns and haute couture texture. She tends to stick with basic black, but chooses outrageous texture and true haute couture. It's no wonder she's Karl Lagerfeld's little darling! One of the reasons she's looked so good lately? Karl himself has used her as a muse since she appeared in Chanel handbag ads in 2007. Go Edgy-Chic Like Emma Roberts

    image

At the 14th Annual Gen Art Film Festival "Lymelife" Premiere, budding fashionista Emma Roberts rocked a fabulous look that combined uptown glam with a downtown-cool edge. Emma demonstrated stellar mixing and matching, teaming a black sequined Monique Lhuillier tank with light-wash bell bottom jeans from Current/Elliot. She made the look more night-time appropriate with a pair of black pointy Stuart Weitzman pumps, a beaded Chanel necklace, and a sleek pea-coat to fend off the outdoor chill. I absolutely love how this look is sexy, but in that very rare, effortless sort of way that makes it super sleek as well. Check out my SLIDESHOW to get this fabulous look!

April 22nd marks the 39th anniversary of Earth Day and we can all do our part in saving the environment. This year, Earth Day is focusing on topics such as renewable energy and our own commitment to sustainable living. It's easy as turning off and unplugging lights and appliances you're not using, eating locally grown food, recycling, and of course, shopping! Long gone are the days of wearing uncomfortable and shapeless eco-friendly clothing. Super stylish brands from Charlotte Ronson to J Brand have something eco-friendly in their collection! Take a look at the Organic Larch Blanket by Unison and its surprisingly affordable price. Green beauty lovers will take pride in pursing their lips with Cargo's Plantlove lipstick collection. The packaging is made of biodegradable corn and they'll even donate $2 from each purchase to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Take a peek at my slideshow for more eco-friendly items that will have Mother Earth thanking you.

Celeb Style Steal: Mix High and Low Like Eva Longoria!

    image

We've all heard the old song and dance about how true style comes from being able to mix high and low-end items together seamlessly. While most starlets seem to abandon this mantra at events which are usually paved with high-fashion, Eva Longoria Parker proved to be a unlikely exception, bringing this style adage to life and showing all how it's done! At the the Whaleman Foundation Dinner, Eva, pictured with whale-activist extraordinaire Hayden Panettiere in Herve Leger, kept it easy-chic wearing skinny J Brand jeans, a cropped Old Navy belted jacket, YSL pumps, and some fun accessories for a look that deviated from her usual high-maintenance style, exuding fun, carefree glamour. Check out my SLIDESHOW to this fabulous look!
