    Influential International Style: Daphne Guinness

    image

Daphne Guinness, heiress to the Guinness family fortune, sure seems to know what she's doing. Quite simply, she's a haute couturier's dream. She's open to all sorts of eclectic, wacky, detailed styling - and has the collection to prove it. Although she seems to prefer a simple color palette of blacks, whites and creams, they never appear the same way. Whether it's a kerchief neckline, Jetson-esque cap sleeves or leopard print detailing, Guinness can pull it off in spades. As one of the world's most prolific collectors of haute couture (what wouldn't you give to also hold that title?), she's a risk-taker, and often a winner of the fashion set. Rather than sticking to any rules, she simply has fun. Think Alexander McQueen meets Karl Lagerfeld meets Vivienne Westwood. Check out my slideshow for a sampling of Daphne Guinness' style! St. Patrick's Day Makeup That Won't Have You Looking Like A ...

This St. Patrick's Day, even if your closet isn't loaded with wearable green pieces to choose from, you can still avoid those pesky pinchers by incorporating shades of green into your beauty regime for the day! I realize that for the more demure makeup mavens the idea of wearing Irish pride on your face sounds a bit risky, as green makeup tends to evoke scary images of personas like Poison Ivy and senile old ladies with lime green shadow up to their eyebrows. However, given the many different products and variety of formulas from sheer and shimmery to bright concentrated pigments, not to mention the large spectrum of clover-inspired shades to choose from, it's actually super simple to incorporate green into your makeup routine, no matter how subtle or striking you'd like the look to be. Bolder beauties can slick a sparkly green Sally Hansen lacquer on their nails and even attempt to pull of MAC's green-tinted lipglass (trust me -- it's not as crazy as it sounds)! Or, if lime green really isn't your thing, play up their peepers with a festive version of the smokey eye using dark forest green shadow by Nars in place of charcoal. As long as you don't try to wear all of these products at once, you'll likely find that bright emerald and grassy shades don't have to be tacky. While you probably won't end up stumbling upon a pot of gold this year, you might just be lucky enough to discover a flattering new eye-popping color that's wearable enough to incorporate into your cosmetics for any day of the week! Check out the slideshow for more shamrock-like makeup shades!

As the resident Irish expert at Stylehive (disclaimer: former Irish dancer, Notre Dame Alumna and Chicago native - the home of the green river... not to mention my birthday is the day after!), I'd like to help you discover the Irish in your for St. Patrick's Day. March 17th only comes around once a year, but since it's on a Tuesday this year, we are lucky enough to celebrate it on the surrounding weekends, too! You know the saying, everyone's Irish on St. Patrick's Day, so celebrate banishing the snakes from the Emerald Isle. You'll be singing "Danny Boy" over this adorable Joe's Jeans Katie Bag and seeing a thousand shades of green after seeing this Volcom Letter Mess Burnout Tank. Old Navy always designs a great t-shirt every year for the occasion, at a great price of $5! Check out my slideshow for some stylish St. Patrick's Day flair!
