Hot In The Hive: Williams-Sonoma Sandwich Cookie Cake Pan

I don't know what it is about summer, but I tend to do a lot of baking during the months between June and August. Maybe it's because friends are home from college and out of town visitors are making my home seem more like a bed & breakfast! Anyway, I love to entertain and I've even attempted a mini-pie business (sadly, it only lasted two weeks) so I'm always on the lookout for the latest and greatest. That's why I'm a regular visitor to the local Williams-Sonoma store. Can you believe that everyone in the store heard my audible gasp when I saw the Sandwich Cookie Cake Pan? Perfect for kids and grownups alike, two cakes can come together with a delicious buttercream frosting middle or even add ice cream! Williams-Sonoma even provides a recipe on their Web site. So forget making a boring salad or casserole to your next summer party. This cake will definitely be a crowd pleaser!

    Price: $29.95

Hot In The Hive: Crate & Barrel's Ice Cream Pint Tub

Whenever I go to the grocery store, I stock up on all the essentials: pasta, salad greens, orange juice, and of course ice cream. But more often than not, I'll run into a friend and end up going to a cafe for long conversations over coffee and cookies. When I finally get home, I discover that the salad greens have wilted, the orange juice is warm, and the ice cream is soup. Sound like a familiar story? Well, I can't help you with the wilted greens or the warm orange juice, but I do have a solution for the melted ice cream. The Ice Cream Pint Tub from Crate and Barrel is designed with freezer gel (like the kind in ice packs) in the lid. Just freeze the lid for 2.5 hours and bring the whole thing with you the next time you buy ice cream at the grocery store. Not just for ice cream, it's also handy for other small things that need to stay chilled.

    Price: $12.95

    All The Nu Rave

    image
Alex Gambardella on Apr 3, 2009 7:25 AM PDT
Fashion can start onstage and make its way down to create its own culture. In early 2007 neon leggings and bright colored t-shirts started to dot the runways, club scenes, and raves. Starting in London, this Nu Rave fashion spread throughout Europe from clubs like The End to Yelle's latest video. Clothing labels such as Ice Cream and Genetic Denim have given way to these fashion trends in New York and LA. Nu Rave is a term derived from a similar fashion style of the late eighties and early nineties that was brought from the club scene and pop icons to the catwalks and fashion magazines by designers like Stephen Sprouse (who was among the first to bring a street art/graffiti look to his clothing). The sparkle headbands and oversized neon glasses with matching leggings was first noticed in the underground clubs of London. It then hit the streets of Paris where artists and musicians started to embody the Nu Rave image. Today, musicians such as Yelle, Ed Banger Records, New Young Pony Club, Uffie, LMFAO and New York native Lady Gaga are beginning to deck themselves out in designers such as Jeremy Scott, House of Holland, and Cassette Playa. Even Kanye and M.I.A. have started their own labels bringing this edgy, rocker, rave look to the their fans. This aesthetically attention-grabbing look not only embraces individual creativity, but embodies a culture. Nu Rave is a counter part to a lifestyle inspired by urban music and art. It captures a feeling and a lifestyle. Take a look at WhatsWear.com for more spring trends, fashion movements, and style news!

5 Unique Gifts For Guys, All Under $50!

Why is it that whenever it gets close to holiday gift-giving time, you can ask any girl what she wants and she'll produce a detailed list, yet you ask a guy and he simply says, "I don't know?" Then you end up buying him a lame gift like a tie, socks, or hat that he stuffs in the bottom of his dresser. Well, here are some unique gift ideas that the men in your life are sure to appreciate. Dating a beer and whiskey connoisseur? Get him a home brew kit or cool little whiskey stones made of soapstone so they chill drinks without diluting them. If he's more of an ice cream guy, enroll him in the ice cream of the month club (and hopefully he'll give you a few scoops too)! For the rock star at heart, get an iKaraoke for his iPod - it's portable and he can keep the party rocking anywhere he goes. Check out the slideshow for my top 5 gifts for guys, all under $50!
