The first items of the "Blow Up" family, whose production was launched in 2004, registered an immediate international success. They brought a wave of fresh air into our domestic landscape, sometimes almost too rooted in their form/function ratio. Their method of construction is reminiscent of the forms of recycling typical of urban conglomerates in the third world, but this is done poetically, skillfully respecting the basic requirements of the relevant objects.

Vintage blown royal ruby glass set. A covered canister just the right size for vanity items, a vase for your posies, and a matching tumbler in Anchor Hocking's patented ruby red. Pefect for the vanity or guest bathroom. Jar stands 8.5' tall, 4' round with a base girth of 12'.  Water tumbler is 5' tall.  Vase is 6.5' tall.  All are blown from mold First designed in 1938, this wonderful color survived through the 1970s.  Royal Ruby was produced in 100s of shapes. Stunning retro orange hand-blown velato sommerso glass with incised decor.This vase is gorgeous. Tapering 14' tower of thick quality glass. Weighs 2 lbs.  Hand-blown and cold cut. Made with luminous bright orange glass blown with colorless glass (sommerso).  The glass is quality and heavy.  The exterior was hand carved in wide horizontal cuts in the Battuto  or Martele fashion.  Battuto (or Battuti) means 'struck' in Italian. Martelé literally  means 'hammered' in French. The word in Italian is 'martellato'.The soft satin finish (Velato) was accomplished with repeated micro line incisions encircling the object give the surface a satin-finished appearance.This may be a vintage Italian object.  Italian masters like Tobia and Carlo Scarpa of Venini, among others, created forms in Battuto. Scandinavian countries, like Denmark and Sweden (Orrefors) made art glass with Battuto decor in the mid 20th century also.  Incised glass in the Battuto fashion is being made again today in the Pacific Northwest, U.S.A. by new era studio glass artists who study under great masters like Lino Tagliapietra and Fritz Dreisbach.    It is hard to say when, where and who made this vase. It is of exceptional quality. The bright orange color points to the 1960s - 1970s.There is one more clue on the seat of the vase.  A shadow remains of the original label.  It is impossible to read, but the shape of the label, and the square located inside the label, could lead to the maker's identity. retroartglass . com
