Amsterdam International Fashion Week: Monique Collignon

Monique Collignon is one of Holland€™s top designers. She knows better than anyone how a woman likes to see herself: sexy and daring, yet also chic. Collignon is inspired by the young and sophisticated working girl with a rich social life. She has been producing a ready-to-wear line in addition to haute couture collections. This Autumn/Winter €˜09/'10 collection comes in 3 color themes and 60 styles. Daytime dresses that are also suitable after working hours-, elegant suits with skirts, trousers and stylish cocktail and evening dresses- as always this collection, which also has many tops, is ultimately feminine. The collection has a chic, young and relaxed feel, partly as a result of exciting blends of materials in petrol blue, magenta, olive and golden beige. It goes without saying that this unmistakably "Collignon" collection contains a great deal of black and white. Her design is the constant development of her ideas, impressions and emotions. Her inspiration can be found everywhere: street scenes, architecture, a good book, music, art, and travel experiences. During the creative process she first allows herself to be guided by her individual wishes, which are subsequently strengthened by playing with technical aspects and fabrics. The clientele she appeals to with her haute couture collections is comprised of confident, distinguished women- no trend followers, rather, women in their prime.

Amsterdam International Fashion Week: INDIVIDUALS by AMFI

INDIVIDUALS presented their rich and wearable Winter '09 "Holy Bleach" collection to an enthusiastic audience at Amsterdam International Fashion Week. "Holy Bleach" was inspired by the roaring 20s, captured by an era of cocktails and cobbled streets. The colour palette reflects the variations of natural shades, 'milch,' 'skin,' and 'cognac,' whilst 'lead' and 'morbid' provide the undertones of the collection. The contrasting colours represent the yin and yang of light and shadow; form and balance. Exquisite fabrics have been carefully selected for this collection. Skillful knitwear and recycled fur flaunts luxury. Knitwear underpins the season, both in use of marble colours and azure yarns and lurex. Opposites attract as bleached denim and leather give the season a young, sharp edge compared with the modest chic from the velvet and double weave. Key items were the naked and long jackets. The strapless dress is a beautiful example of modest chic, whilst the razor skirt gives more sharpness. The billow skirt is a surrender of fabric, opening and revealing itself to the world. The silhouette is generally straight, sexy and chic, revealing the figure through draping and fit.

Stylediary Spotlight: Dutch Diarist "Polaroid" Proves Style ...

While browsing through Stylediaries last week (always a good way to get fashion inspiration, btw), I came across user Polaroid. Initially drawn in by her colorful graphic background reminiscent of 80's graffiti, I found that this 16-year-old redhead, who hails from the Netherlands, was the proud owner of some pretty fierce style chops! Cinching almost everything with a belt at the waist makes her look quite ladylike, but her magenta metallic leggings and vibrant sneakers are a definite 180 from that persona. Check out my SLIDESHOW to see out my fave looks from Polaroid's Stylediary.
