New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Brian Reyes

When designer Brian Reyes noted backstage that his Spring/Summer 2010 collection contained "all the things he loves," he wasn't exaggerating. Even though his runway seemed to boast everything but the kitchen sink -- from sheer lingerie to multicolored high-waisted shorts to metallic off-the-shoulder dresses to ink blots(?!) -- he still managed to maintain a sophisticated sense of balance. Floaty ruffled blouses were reined in with cinched belts, and bustier dresses got a dose of high-wattage color to keep things young and fun, not vampy. As for the silk rorschach test body suit? That's the result of a creative thought process that perhaps only Reyes' #1 fan Rachel Bilson would fully understand. Flip through the slideshow to see some of the show-stopping ensembles!

CollegeCandy Shows How To Jump On The High-Waisted Skirt Trend!

    image

Like most of you, I am a [recently graduated but not willing to accept it] college student who would rather dish out money for fashion than food. But sometimes, like in a recession (or when I'm really hungry), that doesn't work out so well. A girl's gotta eat (and look fabulous), right? Which is why I was having some serious issues lately. You see, I am in love with the whole high-waisted skirt look that I see on celebs like Lauren Conrad and Amanda Bynes. It's slimming and cute and I loooove it. But I can't justify spending a good chunk of change on a skirt that will be out of style in 6 months when I have 10 perfectly fine skirts lining my closet. So I decided to figure out a way to turn what I already got into what I want. Turns out, it's not that hard to make your own high-waisted skirt. Even for crafty rejects like myself. Jump over to the CollegeCandy blog for the quick & simple step-by-step!

Elle's Fall A To Zee Trends: The New Pant

    image

Move over skinny and slim-cut, wide leg trousers are coming through! Rework your wardrobe this fall, because, believe it or not, there's a backlash against those skinny and slim-cut silhouettes that have been walking the runways and streets for the past few years. And it's not just me noticing this resurgence--Elle Creative Director Joe Zee includes this fall fashion must-have in Elle's Fall A To Zee Trends, hailing this style as the 'New Pant.' Stealing the hearts of designers and fashionistas alike, these pairs have full silhouettes and slouchy looks that exude smart style, and if fashion were a religion--which often times it seems to be--you could say that I'm a convert. And If you're feeling especially preppy or playful, choose a pair of pants packed with pleats like these ADAM pleated wide leg pants or these Alexander Wang pleated baggy pants. Now, I know many of you are questioning how flattering can these pants actually be, or how you can wear the slouchy look with out becoming a slouch yourself, but rest assured--with these designer duds straight from the Hive, you'll be the wearing the pants- they won't be wearing you! Go to Elle's A To Zee Trends to see Joe Zee's pick, and take a peek at my favorite trousers from the Hive in my SLIDESHOW!
