Runway Wrap-Up: Stylehive's Top 10 Looks From New York ...

    image

Despite the mayhem that Fashion Week always brings upon us over here at the Hive, even from all the way across the country, we have to say we are a little sad to see it go. I mean, now what are we supposed to do? Sit around drooling until next spring when all of these gorgeous summery pieces finally hit the stores? In the meantime, we can take comfort in the fact that based on the designers' Spring/Summer collections, the forecast for next year is undoubtedly hot, hot, hot! Looking back on all of the runway parades we've covered in the past couple weeks, we can't help but notice the abundance of fun party frocks -- from Christian Siriano's tiered ruffles to Zac Posen's neon sheaths -- and the welcome resurgence of bright, cheerful hues (after all, what's more springy than color?) that seem to insist that high-impact shades are clearly going to be the new black! As for the late-night dance-floor hoppers, who can forget Whitney Port's designer debut with all of those slinky metallic numbers? And while the celebrity attendance record may have been abysmal (aside from the usual Anna Wintour and Rachel Zoe sightings), I'm sure the starlets will still be rocking these runway looks on the red carpet come spring! Take a look at the slideshow to reminisce with us over the Fashion Week highlights!

New York Fashion Week Spring 2010: Herve Leger

    image

I was very pleasantly surprised by the Herve Leger Spring 2010 collection. This season, designer Max Azria really pushed the boundaries of the possibilities of the bandage dress, experimenting with new styles and techniques. The collection had a more bohemian vibe to it which offset the stiffness of the signature bandage silhouette, adding a more free-spirited sensibility. The color palette was mostly neutral and all looks contained some form of clever crafting. Notting, braiding, beading, crocheting, the bandage dress got a seriously fantastic makeover this season. Some of the looks were topped off with retro-inspired jackets which added to the more fuss-free vibe of this season's collection. For the more self-conscious, there were styles that weren't strictly body-con including two flair dresses with crochet detail and another look which teamed a corset top with a printed chiffon flared skirt. There were also a few denim patchwork dresses that are a lot more flaw-forgiving than some of the classic styles. I also almost died over the black beaded styles which had a glam-rock edge to them that I can never resist. Overall, Mr. Azria really delivered and introduced something new that still maintained the Herve integrity. Click the slideshow to see more from Herve Leger at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week!

Steal Her Style: Blake Lively's Summery Hamptons Look

    image

Blake Lively is one of the most stylish starlets in Tinseltown -- and she doesn't work with a personal stylist. The outfit she recently wore to QVC's Super Saturday charity shopping event in the Hamptons was molto bene and perfect for a breezy summer day. Blake paired a form-fitting white mini by Herve Leger with a tailored blue-and-white-striped Oxford, and the classic preppiness of the shirt balanced the raciness of the eensie-weensie skirt. She finished the look with a pair of brown patent round-toe pumps and a long chain necklace. Here's how you can get her look for way less, courtesy of Lemondrop!

    1. Elizabeth and James Schoolboy Shirt: This menswear-inspired shirt features ruched sleeves and back buttons to keep it looking fitted, not boxy. $264
    2. Forever 21 Cut Off Denim Skirt: A crisp white skirt like this can be worn to a daytime BBQ or as an impromptu beach cover-up. $20
    3. Matisse Pump: A thick wooden heel and shiny patent upper combine to make this pump a true eye-catcher. $42
    4. Sequin Long Chain Necklace: Add some funky style to a more classic look with a fun, tiered chain necklace like this gorgeous silver version. $40

Rock A Body-Con Herve Leger Dress Like Amanda Bynes

At this year's Teen Choice Awards, the always adorable Amanda Bynes kept it fuss-free and fabulous. Amanda is a huge fan of Herve Leger and rocked a citrus yellow bandage dress from the label at the event. She gave the look her own unique spin by pairing it with a pair of electric purple Christian Louboutin peep-toe pumps and a gold python clutch from Gerard Darel. Never one to pile on the accessories, Amanda kept it simple with two muted rings. Adding to the playful look were her Barbie pink nails (neon nail shades are all the rage right now). Whether you want to splurge on a bandage style from Herve Leger or find a more affordable substitute, this silhouette always screams sexy and grants you the freedom to accessorize in a way that suits your personal style. Show Some Skin In A Chic Cutout Dress!

Remember the '90s? When models weren't just models, they were supermodels. The glamazons graced the covers of magazines and walked the red carpet just as often as the runway. They strutted their stuff in sexy body-con frocks; who could forget Cindy Crawford's strappy black mini or Elizabeth Hurley's safety-pinned skintight Versace gown? While those times may seem like a forgotten era, at least their way of dressing has come back in style. It's been hard to ignore the all the body conscious dresses out there! Ever since the return of Herve Leger, the fashion world just can't get enough. But now the snug silhouette has turned even more daring! Designers have been snipping and clipping into these dresses, giving us a whole new way to be revealing. Some designers, like Stella McCartney and Black Halo, have gone the subtle route, offering strappy, open cut outs around the shoulders. Another subtle way to rock this trend is with a cut out back, like Charlotte Ronson's exposed zipper mini dress! Or for a cheap fix try the Spring & Clifton cut out dolman tunic. Some designers have even opted to give you cut outs with out actual skin showing but replacing some areas of fabric with micro-mesh. My favorite is the Two Toned Mini Dress from American Apparel. But if you really want to embody that sex pot '90s style, you have to go all out with some daring mid drift cut outs a la Alexander Wang! See the slideshow for the cutout dresses on my wishlist.
