Alfred Shaheen designed fabrics and clothing for over 40 years, creating one of the largest manufacturing operations that Hawaii would ever see. In the 1950s, he built an $8 million factory complex that allowed him to print, dye and finish all his own fabrics. And his textile designs are legendary! Inspired by Hawaiian, Polynesian and Asian cultures, each print was lovingly handscreened onto the fabric. Then that fabric was fashioned into everything from bombshell sundresses to elegant cocktail attire, from fun little playsuits to casual hostess gowns.
