Once upon a time, women sat around on Sunday nights sipping cocktails and tuning in to their favorite fashion friends on Sex and the City. But whether you were more of a Samantha or a Carrie type doesn't matter anymore because there's a whole new gang of girls in town. The new fashionistas to watch are the girls of the hit series Mad Men. The buxom Joan Holloway, the poised Betty Draper, and the spunky Peggy Olsen don't just entertain us but allow us to feast our eyes on the fabulous designs of yesteryear, coordinated by the show's talented costume designer, Janie Bryant. Pair the dresses walking down the halls of Sterling Cooper with period pumps and handbags and you'll look a bit dated, but it's easy to glam them up 2009-style with tights, belted cardigans or ankle boots. Now just click the slideshow for some vintage delights for Mad Men fans.

Vintage Fashionistas Mean Business: Ten Suits for the ...

It's been over a decade since I traded the Fortune 500 lifestyle for that of an entrepreneur, but I still remember the best piece of advice I ever received while in the corporate world: Dress for the job you want, not the job you have. It's so much more empowering to own and wear only five suits that make you look (and feel) like a CEO than it is to have a closet full of clothes that just won't pass muster in a boardroom. And in today's economy, with people in every tax bracket minding their P's and Q's (pennies and quarters), it's a good time to remember that quality never goes out of style. Sure today's selection of vintage suits carry higher price-tags than their shoddily made cousins, but their cost-per-wear can make your morning latte seem like the more expensive luxury. The name Henrietta means "queen" or "ruler," and Henrietta Kanengeiser was an undisputed Queen in the fashion world. Don't recognize the name? Probably because you know her better as late designer extraordinaire Hattie Carnegie. She changed her surname from Kanengeiser to honor her mentor, Andrew Carnegie, and she obtained her nickname at 16 while making hats at Macy's Department Store, hence "Hattie." While she was a fashion power house in the 1930s through the 1950s, heading an operation that employed over 1,000 workers and did millions of dollars of business at a time when most women were homemakers, she also designed amazing costume jewelry to complement her clothing.
