Coquette Has Her Eye On Bombako Headbands

    image
Natalie Zee Drieu on Oct 7, 2009 5:23 AM PDT
It's no wonder why Gossip Girl brought headbands to the forefront once again, but these headbands by Bambako take them to a whole new level of sophistication. Details such as feathers, beading, and ornate ribbons make these a perfect compliment to any outfit without looking overly embellished or gaudy. For the Fall/Winter 2009 collection, designer Abigail Ricarte wanted to create pieces that were fun, strong, and ultra femme. "This season, I was really drawn to bold statement pieces by playing with different textures and heavy splashes of color in between. I wanted to appeal to a range of girls - from yuppies to hipsters," says Abigail. And given the variety of her collection, from the glitzy Night in Tunesia to the laidback feathered Oh Hey band, we can't imagine what type of girl wouldn't be able to find something she likes! Head over to Coquette for more fall fashion!

Remember when you were a little girl and nothing made you happier than having a big bow in your hair? Handle & Spout jewelry is perfect for adding just a touch of whimsy to any outfit. Started by friends Corinne Gill and Blake Ramsey as a creative refuge from their day jobs, the duo hand-makes this festive line of accessories and jewelry. Inspired by '30s and '40s glamour, they make cute and ethereal chiffon flower hair pins and larger "disco Lilly" poofs that come as a headband or hair pin. They're girly, fun, shimmery and, at under $35, they make perfect gifts for your girlfriend's birthday, a beautifully unique accessory for bridesmaids, or maybe something a bride would want to wear for that special day (say hello to something blue!). Handle and Spout round out their collection with gold and silver leather chain necklaces and headbands, an unexpected twist on the heavy metal jewelry look that's so in right now. Check out the slideshow or go to www.handlespout.com to see even more beautiful designs and purchasing details.

Get Your Hands On Jessica Alba's Feathered Headband!

Jessica Alba knows a thing or two about being glamorous on the red carpet. But this past year she has been discovering a whole new type of style -- "mommy chic." One thing that all new moms learn pretty quickly is that having hair in your face while trying to run after your kids is no fun. Jessica is a huge fan of headbands, yet her picks are anything but basic and ordinary. Everything from feathers to ribbons have adorned her pulled-back hairline. Running errands around Los Angeles with her adorable daughter Honor, she sported a cute Stella Accessories feathered headband that added just a touch of whimsy to her jeans-and-tank style. To get the look, mom or not, you can get the Madison headband by Stella Accessories which retails for $42.

Tulips, Pansies and Flowers For Your Hair!

What happens when you combine some of the biggest names in fashion with...floral design? On May 14's Tulips & Pansies: The Headdress Affair event in NYC, I got to see the results of that unlikely pairing firsthand, as designers including Tory Burch, Thierry Mugler, Lilly Pulitzer, Alvin Valley, and Zang Toi partnered with some of New York City's top horticulturalists to create one-of-a-kind, uber-chapeaus made entirely of flowers. The finished product? Simply stunning. Painstakingly weaved orchids, red roses that spilled from a bustle in a graceful blanket, and twigs that were fashioned into shapes straight out of a Tim Roth film were just some of the highlights I tried to capture with my meager little 8.0 mpx. Some of the creations just had to be viewed in person, though, to really appreciate the extraordinary level of detail and work that went into each headdress. After the fabulous runway show, I ran into designer Zang Toi and PR doyenne/"The Hills" favorite Kelly Cutrone, and even got to try Zang's headdress on, wherein I decided that the models must also be thick-necked linebackers in disguise because, Holy Cow, it weighed at least 25 pounds (the tilt I'm sporting in the pic is not at all an attempt to be coy)! Yet the fact that the night was in honor of Village Cares New York (VCNY), a not-for-profit organization serving individuals with HIV/AIDS in need of medical and rehabilitation services, must have made the weight quite a lot easier to bear. Check out the slide-show to view some of the fab headdress creations!

Still Haven't Decided On A Wedding Hairstyle? Try A Floral ...

Even if it is raining on your wedding day, you can bet you'll have stylish hair! Instead of a traditional veil or tiara, your wedding can be given just the right touch with a bit of some beautifully crafted buds. Hairpieces can be found for tight and loose budgets alike and it's a perfect way to bring a taste of the outdoors to your ceremony. Designers like Mikiye, Erin Cole, Sara Gabriel, and Laura Jayne have even been budding flower-specific collections for hairdos so fresh they could be hair-dews-- but unlike the petals you can pick off of living plants, these keepsakes will last forever! If you're unsure about pinning one of these to your head, start small with a simple accent, like this hydrangea hair pin- it will add the perfect amount of sweetness and elegance, without distracting from your dress. Some of the prettiest pieces are just a click away in my slideshow!
