New York Fashion Week F/W 2010: Richard Chai

While vibrant colors and saturated shades are having their moment, Richard Chai brought it back to industrial chic for Fall/ Winter 2010. Think edgy grunge meets uptown chic with contrasting layers and varying fabrics swathed in a nonchalantly stylish way. A color palette of soft and deep greys and blacks were subtly interjected with muted olive greens and dusky dark blues while sheer, fluid ruffles and drapes were layered over unique basics. Styles featured anything from wool jackets and blazers to flowing dresses and tops, all over sized. Monochromatic layered basics that may well have been stolen from the boyfriend's closet were worn in a conservative manner, and fitted corset designs were paired with looser fitting, sleeved garments. A juxtaposition of styles, with knit arm warmers complimenting thick, luxe cropped furs all done in grey and dark tones, summed up this relaxed but structured hobo-chic collection. Denim To Die For From Tripp NYC

Denim is like blood-- you need it to survive. One of my ultimate favorite denim jean brands, Tripp NYC, has just released their summer collection, now available at Karmaloop.com. Conceived on the streets of the East Village in the early 80s, Daang Goodman, founder and designer of the label, has drawn inspiration from underground rock n' roll scene, fusing it with downtown NYC street style. Tripp NYC has stayed true to its rock n' roll roots, dressing today's top musicians and artists. The brand is looked to for emerging trends on the pages of Vogue, Interview and Nylon. Tripp NYC produces the hottest colors and cuts for all their denim jeans, featuring rip, stud, zipper and splatter details. My most coveted pairs are The Tear Me Down Ripped Jean, web-exclusive to Karmaloop.com, and The In Distress Black Splattered Ripped Jean, a grunge flashback to the early 90s, seen on Agyness Deyn. Also check out my other top picks: The Spilt Personality Jeans, The Stud Jeans and The Double Zip Jeans in Turquoise.
