Ghoulish And Gorgeous Halloween Makeup To Complete Your Look!

If you're not exactly the most handy with an eyeliner brush, or even if you can't tell the difference between an eyeliner brush or an eyeshadow applicator, you may normally skip past beauty aisles and counters out of fear of the unknown... or the likelihood that you'll end up looking like something out of a horror movie if left to your own devices with a collection of shades. Luckily, Halloween is the one time of year where that look just might work in your favor! Costume makeup doesn't discriminate between the cosmetics-challenged and the beauty adept; even if you're not looking to go out as a drag queen, it can be fairly easy to complement your costume with the right Halloween-appropriate makeup. Dark nail polish is always an easy way to get festive, or take the opportunity to go full-out glam with gilded eye foil. Or if you're really that helpless when it comes to self-beautifying, these wild ColorOn eyeshadow appliques practically do all the work for you! Take a look at the slideshow for some perfect beauty picks to either look frightening or fetching on your night out!

Shimmering Makeup Shades For Just A Dash Of Summer Sparkle

    image

When it comes to summer beauty, it's all about strategically playing up certain features that pop -- and what better way to give your beauty look plenty of star power than with a touch of glitter? Now I know what you may be thinking: no, I'm not trying to make you channel Adam Lambert or force you to relive your preteen days experimenting with roll-on glitter gel and butterfly clips. Sure, shimmer isn't exactly for the wallflowers, but when applied with a modest (and steady!) hand, it's a bold beauty risk that pays off on any day of the week (not just on Halloween)! To avoid glimmer overload, stick to sparkling only one feature at a time -- whether you opt for dazzling lips or shimmery cheekbones -- and keep the rest of your face matte and minimal, for the most part. Over-doing the shine everywhere and anywhere may have you looking too much like a "Dancing With The Stars" contestant, even without the sequined salsa gown to tip you over the edge of what is considered wearable (and sane). Check the slideshow for some of my favorite glitzy products!

St. Patrick's Day Makeup That Won't Have You Looking Like A ...

This St. Patrick's Day, even if your closet isn't loaded with wearable green pieces to choose from, you can still avoid those pesky pinchers by incorporating shades of green into your beauty regime for the day! I realize that for the more demure makeup mavens the idea of wearing Irish pride on your face sounds a bit risky, as green makeup tends to evoke scary images of personas like Poison Ivy and senile old ladies with lime green shadow up to their eyebrows. However, given the many different products and variety of formulas from sheer and shimmery to bright concentrated pigments, not to mention the large spectrum of clover-inspired shades to choose from, it's actually super simple to incorporate green into your makeup routine, no matter how subtle or striking you'd like the look to be. Bolder beauties can slick a sparkly green Sally Hansen lacquer on their nails and even attempt to pull of MAC's green-tinted lipglass (trust me -- it's not as crazy as it sounds)! Or, if lime green really isn't your thing, play up their peepers with a festive version of the smokey eye using dark forest green shadow by Nars in place of charcoal. As long as you don't try to wear all of these products at once, you'll likely find that bright emerald and grassy shades don't have to be tacky. While you probably won't end up stumbling upon a pot of gold this year, you might just be lucky enough to discover a flattering new eye-popping color that's wearable enough to incorporate into your cosmetics for any day of the week! Check out the slideshow for more shamrock-like makeup shades!

Have A Boo-tiful Halloween With Our Stylish And Spooky Makeup ...

In the process of coming up with a Halloween costume- a process that has yet to deliver results- I suddenly came across a strange patch of regret over certain costumes I wish I'd worn when I was younger, like a Marvin the Martian suit, or Ms. Pac-man getup, complete with a trail of devoted friends/evil ghosts. But seeing as that ship sailed years ago and time is running out in more ways than one, I'm going to use this Halloween as an excuse to experiment with the crazy makeup I'd never be caught dead in- pun intended- on any other day. MAC makes it easy- you can shop by look, so celebrating Halloween from the neck up is suddenly filled with colorful options like "Space Diva," "Tronika" (a robot-femme type), and tons of other ideas. Click the slideshow for more novelty makeup that's perfect for Halloween, and feel free to comment with your own ideas...and while we're on the subject, anyone know of any, uh, arcade-themed parties?
