Warm up With Fur Embellished Winter Boots!

    image
Ida Hsiang on Oct 15, 2009 5:24 AM PDT
After making an appearance on the runway at Marc by Marc Jacobs, the fur boot is back. You may recall the mukluk trend from a few seasons ago. Yes, it's back and it is part of the larger fur trend we are seeing on faux fur vests in particular as well as handbags. So it make sense, but not sure if I am ready to embrace furry winter boots again this year. What do you think of these fur festooned boots? Will you buy them this winter? The style seen on the runway for fall 2009 is the Marc by Marc Jacobs Faux-fur lace-up boot (bottom right, $350 at Net-a-Porter). A completely fur covered boot this will keep your toes nice and toasty during the snowiest of days or perhaps on the slopes apres ski? The gray faux-fur-embellished boots feature black canvas criss-cross laces at the front, silver-tone eyelets and a black rubber sole to prevent slippage on snowy urban sidewalks or while relaxing in the ski lodge. Another style is Givenchy's Fur-Front Ankle Boot, (top right, $1150 at Saks.com) and obviously not too appropriate for snowy streets, but perhaps a snow-free night out on the town. These rabbit fur embellished booties with a stacked heel will look perfect with black leggings or skinny jeans. Blast From The Past: Jellies Make A Comeback!

    image
Adriana Nova on May 14, 2009 4:17 PM PDT
Jellies are as endemic to summer as ice cream truck jingles, kickball, and sparklers at twilight. For so many of us, the bright colors and strappy designs of this childhood staple were an early way to make a fashion statement, as well as a reason to beg to be allowed to wear nail polish (or sneak it when your parents weren't looking). We left them somewhere between 5th and 6th grade, when Keds or more grown-up leather sandals took over and jellies were relegated to either younger siblings or the "outgrown" bin. And, like going from lowly camper to bonafide junior counselor, you never really looked back. At least, that is, until recent years when a passion for all things retro and simple has come surging back and your favorite rubber footies have been reinterpreted by fashion favorites from on-high (Givenchy, Jimmy Choo) to the more affordable (Asos). Check out the slideshow to see if they can entice you once again!

Hot In The Hive: Givenchy Leather Camera Case

    image
Alex Gambardella on Apr 24, 2009 6:20 AM PDT
The combination of the currently warm weather and depressing economy brings back fond childhood memories of my carefree summers spent at Girl Scout Camp. We used to do all sorts of fun things like hiking, face painting, arts & crafts -- and as a fashion maven in training, one of my favorite activities was a leather-working workshop where we would get to make our own leather bangles, barrettes, and accessories by etching designs into the material or gluing on tacky feathers or jewels. Sometimes I wish I had kept some of my kiddie creations, just to see if any could have been salvageable for any fleeting trend of the moment, which is why I was so excited to discover the similarly-adorned Givenchy Camera Case at Barneys! Why go through the trouble of a do-it-yourself craft project to create your own camera accessory when you can waste all of your money simply buying a ridiculously-priced designer leather case that looks exactly like an 8-year-old girl decorated it for you? Furthermore, the case measures about 5x8 inches, so it's actually probably way too big for your camera, but at least all that unnecessary surface area allows more room for gaudy jewels! Overall, it totally makes sense to have your carrying case cost over ten times more than the object it's meant to protect.

Price: $3,620 -- not even kidding!

Get That Mary-Kate Tough-Chic Look With LD Tuttle Shoes

    image

Like funky footwear? Then its time to discover LD Tuttle shoes. Tastemakers like Natalia Vodianova and Mary-Kate Olsen have already been seen sporting the avant-garde shoes all over town. Designed by Tiffany Tuttle out of her Los Angeles studio, the line has been a fashion favorite for a few seasons now, and Tuttle's designed shoes for RVCA by Erin Wasson and VPL by Victoria Bartlett. The Ivy League-schooled designer decided to pursue fashion and went back to school for a graduate degree from FIT. Working for Givenchy in Paris and then for Rebecca Taylor, she realized her love of shoes and jetted off to Milan to learn the craft. As a former ballet dancer, she understands and has studied the shape of the leg and arch of the foot that helps her create the most flattering shoe possible. Now she turns out shoes that have a raw yet refined tough girl edge. The spring collection will meld perfectly with the season's tough-chic fashions, or punk up even the most prim of dresses. I'm just dying to get my hands on the 'spectre' open toe boot. Check out the slideshow to see which LD Tuttle shoes are your favorites!

Dressing In Nude From Head To Toe

    image
Pauline Montupet on Mar 30, 2009 11:24 AM PDT
There is nothing more chic than dressing in one tone from head to toe. It used to be all black, but spring's new fresh trend is head to toe nude. Soft neutrals dominated the runways in the spring shows. Chloe and Stella McCartney's shows were both an ode to pale flesh tones, Donna Karan gave us warm nudes that evoke suntans and sandy beaches, even the man of darkness Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy showed beige clothing and buttery pale leather accessories. Wear the look head to toe with a sexy Jay Godfrey fringe dress and a pair of nude booties; top it all off with an ivory or nude sweater. But if you're feeling more adventurous beat the evening chill with the leather jacket in a non-traditional nude. Madison Marcus' 'Anthem' jacket would finish of the look perfectly or look great over a black outfit for just a touch of nude. Pale accessories are also a great way to dabble in the trend; nude or beige shoes give your legs that long endless look. A light handbag is a nice alternative and just as versatile as black or brown. Go a little or go all the way, but whatever you do, make sure you have a few nude pieces in your spring wardrobe. Click the slideshow to see everything you need to go nude for spring.
