Fashion Week London: Luella Bartley Spring 2010 Ready to Wear ...

    image

Luella Bartley recently presented her Spring 2010 Ready to Wear Collection at London Fashion Week. Her new collection goes dressier and less cheeky than we've come to expect from Bartley. It would be easy to imagine the late Jackie Kennedy wearing these pieces in 1965. Silhouettes were very feminine, with princess seams, pinched waists, and padded hips. She also showed several summer weight car coats in very ladylike "trapeze" shapes in happy, gorgeous colors, like a not-too-baby blue and a wonderful lipstick-y red. Other pieces included puffy dresses with velvet polka dots, sweetheart necklines, and Peter Pan collars. Bartley's recent collections have been far more precious with an abundance of frilly touches like dainty flower prints, ribbons, and tulle. By comparison, the latest collection is much more dressed up, despite the sugar pinks and lemon yellows. Even the one or two dresses with tulle trim appeared more sophisticated than one might expect from a designer who does things in an unapologetically girly way. Betsey Johnson, the Goddess of Fashion, has just released her new collection of handbags, now available at Karmaloop.com. The Betsey Johnson handbag collection is one of the designer's newest addition to her label, featuring bags of all sizes, of all colors, of all designs. Betsey Johnson's bags are fun, girly and super chic. Nothing short of posh and trendy, they add style to any outfit. It's no surprise that such a collection stems from the mastermind herself. The New York-based designer has built her long-standing and successful career in fashion by following her own set of rules. Infamous for her glorification of all things embellished and over-the-top, Betsey has been ruling the fashion industry with her unique and exuberant designs since the 1960s. Betsey's love for dancing and costumes fueled her creativity and inspiration, which are still manifested in her designs today. She reflects her passions in her original and invariably popular pieces, shedding light on a new era of contemporary innovative fashion. Entice looks your way with the Overnighter in Black Sailor Girl, the Barrel Bag in Black Safari Park and the Small Hobo in Blue Rosey Ruffles. Check out the rest of the collection at Karmaloop.com.

Style Icon: Natasha Khan From Bat for Lashes

If there is one person whose closet (let's be honest, whose whole life) I'd like to raid, it would be Natasha Khan. Singer, songwriter, multi- instrumentalist, visual artist, and now my personal fashion muse, is there anything this British beauty can't do? Combining unusual instruments (like the harpsichord), a militaristic sound, a vintage vibe, and mystical indie rock, her songs are hauntingly beautiful. She is a master storyteller, taking us on trips through animal kingdoms and magical dream sequences. Her covetable style incorporates the whimsy of her music with a 70s flair, lots of layering, and is always topped off with a retro style headband. Check out my slideshow of some of Natasha's favorite designers mixed in with my faves she'd look great in, then watch her amazing video.

Sounds like: Joanna Newsom, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Bjork
Top Songs to Download: "Priscilla", "What's a Girl To Do", and "Horse and I"

New York Stylediarist Channels Ashley and Mischa

I have such a style crush on Ashley Olsen. She€™s the type of girl who can wear something obscure from an offbeat designer like Rick Owens or Balenciaga and somehow make it look surprisingly female and feminine. Every time she€™s out, she€™s in an outfit worth being photographed, but it€™s her ability to make high street style look girly that really turns heads. She has a natural talent for softening fashion hardest wedges. Mischa Barton has been a "dress like a girl€™s girl" as well. Pretty dresses, easy flats. The look is a mix of trendy and chic with romantic, the outcome is fashion that€™s equally boy and girl friendly. New York Stylediarist Courtykay is a digital example. Plus she includes her doggy in her pics - aww!

    Who She Is: Courtykay
Her Look: Trendy with a feminine twist
Why She's Cool: Gives super chic design a girly vibe

Designer to Watch: Dorothy Lee's Clean Lines and Simple ...

Give me deconstructed layers with feminine tailoring, in colors reminiscent of a coming-of-age Sofia Coppola film, and I am in heaven! You'll be sitting - or standing, or reclining - pretty in just about anything from Dorothy Lee. I would expect nothing less than greatness from her after studying at Parsons and Central St. Martins and interning for Chanel and Peter Som. Dorothy Lee presents a line of contradictions, with their girly yet ladylike silhouettes, where clean lines and simple shapes meet intricate detailing. Her relaxed, whimsical creations are the epitome of effortless chic, they have a throw-it-on-and-go quality that makes them this seasons wardrobe staple. Check out my slideshow for 10 of her prettiest looks.
