Hot In The Hive: Philosophy Winter Escape Set

    image

What is it about festive drinks like hot apple cider and eggnog that gets me into the holiday mood (even when the unseasonable 70 degree weather outside is really betraying my pre-Christmas spirit)? No matter what the forecast, one sip of hot chocolate and I'm instantly transported out of my uncomfortable heels and straight to the ski lodge, all warm and cozy in a Snuggie (or not). But what's even better -- now you can enjoy the yummy winter-warmness of the season even in the shower! Philosophy's Winter Escape Set comes complete with a trio of peppermint hot chocolate-themed products: shower gel, lotion, and lip shine, all wrapped in an adorable winter cottage box. Sure, it's not the same as drinking cocoa by the fire (I'm pretty sure downing this won't taste good), but lathering up with anything cocoa and marshmallow-scented, paired with the comfy steaminess of your shower, is probably the next best thing! The set also makes a super cute gift to anyone who loves at-home pampering!

Hot In The Hive: Numark iDJ2

One of my favorite music documentaries is Scratch, which delves into the background of the hip-hop DJ and turntablism. From clips of the famous 1984 Grammy Awards with Herbie Hancock & Grand Mixer DXT performance of "Rockit" to interviews with modern day DJ legends, Scratch covered it all. The most impressive part was seeing all the DJs show off their skills at the turntables. While definitely inspiring, I certainly don't have the space or money for a set of turntables and stacks of records. Thank goodness modern technology is here to the rescue! The Numark iDJ2 is the first mixing station that enables you to play two tracks simultaneously from the same iPod. Use the two large wheels to scratch without harming a single vinyl and even record your own demos. Who knows, you may go from DJing your friends' parties to hitting the big time one day. This is also a great gift idea for your musically inclined dad for Father's Day!

Gifts for Grads: Frame the Memories!

Looking for a perfect gift for the graduate in your life? Nothing could be more personal than framing a favorite photo as a gift, especially for high school grads headed off to college. I'm sure you agree - taking the time to print and frame a digital picture can take some serious effort, and is something that often is put at the bottom of the to-do list. That's why I love this photo collage frame from personalizationmall.com: you can pick any one-line message and it is lasered into a matboard. Just print a few photos for the back! Tip: it looks even cuter when you let one photo cut across two letters. For something a little simpler for the green-loving grad, what about the Mariposa recycled aluminum frame? It's glamorous and eco-friendly! Check out my slide show for other great photo frame gifts for grads!

Get Crafty For Father's Day And Make a Gadget Case

luvinthemommyhood is a member at Craftstylish, a site dedicated to do-it-yourself crafts and fashionable art projects! Below, she shares a fun how-to on taking an old tie and making it into a gadget case! Father's Day is coming up right around the corner and who need another cheesy Father's Day gift? Nevertheless another tie? Why not make your hubby a father's day gift this year he can use. Let's admit it; most men nowadays have a cell phone, camera, iPod that they are using. They may also have a lot of ties kicking around. So instead of buying yet another tie for father's day this year, why not refashion one he doesn't wear anymore? What's great is this project involves only a little bit of sewing, some fun seam ripping (the kids love this) and dad can use it as a functioning gift. You're helping the environment by reusing and refashioning an article of clothing in your home and also being easy on your wallet. They say that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, but how does one show their love to a special lady in their life? By means of chocolate, of course! This Mother's Day, if you're still debating on what to get your mama -- flowers, jewelry, candy, something more "original" -- this season's selection of couture treats is bound to make you forget all about your more diet-friendly other gift options and instead focus all your energy on choosing which decadent box of goodies will be sure to remind Mom why you're her favorite! From simple yet cute Godiva chocolate lollipops to ridiculously yummy white chocolate-covered Floral Petit Fours from Williams-Sonoma, these candies are so crave-worthy that your mom might be suspicious that you're just trying to fatten her up... but at least she might be more likely to share!
