Fall 2009 Trend Report: Leather Leather Everywhere!

    image
Pauline Montupet on Sep 30, 2009 8:23 AM PDT
Unless you've been living under a rock, you've noticed that leather is coming back in a major way. It dominated the fall '09 runways and will make a huge statement this fall. It's the perfect way to add some rock and roll style to any outfit. There are the old standbys like leather (or faux leather!) jackets and leggings, yet the best way to wear leather this fall is in non-traditional shapes. Try a loose fitting menswear trousers (like the pleated trousers from Geren Ford). Leather skirts have a bad rap and aren't usually considered to be the most classy choice, but can look totally chic when it's artfully draped or cut like pencil skirt. Want something even more non-traditional? Then leather shorts are for you. Paired with some black tights and killer heels, you have a look that's tough, quirky and chic! Charlotte Ronson's high waisted shorts are your best bet. Check out the slideshow for more ideas!

Go Red, White And Chic For The Fourth Of July!

    image

Every year, the fourth of July rolls around and I'm left rummaging through my closet that consist of mostly neutrals and end up showing up to a fourth of July party looking dressed for a funeral and not a BBQ. Quite often the thought of parading around in extraordinary bright colors and mixed patterns and still looking fashionable is extremely daunting. After reviewing some of the spring runway shows I see that red white and blue, when not taken too literally with stars and stripes, can be amazingly chic. Taking cues from Michael Kors' retro Pleasantville-with-a-twist look, I'll be able to put together a fantastic 4th of July ensemble. I'll make the "Plaza Estie" striped skirt the cornerstone of my outfit-- it covers all the necessary colors for the holiday and its flared puffy skirt will leave lots of room for hot dogs and potato salad. A ballet flat with a loud print like Betsey Johnson's circle flat can funk up the primness of the skirt and is great for outdoor events because the last thing you want is your stilettos getting stuck in the grass. Top the look off with a plain white tee, grab a red, white, and blue bikini for a dip in the pool, and you're looking as festive as the fireworks. Check out the slideshow for how to get the look, and other chic red white and blue picks!

New York Fashion Week Runway: Geren Ford Brings Fun to ...

    image

The perfect start to what I€™m sure will be a fabulous Mercedes Benz Fashion Week - that's what I think of yesterday's Geren Ford Spring 2009 presentation, which had a fun, free, anything goes vibe that served as a testament to the fun there is to be had with fashion. Case in point: the socks-and-sandals combo, a risky rule-breaker that added a touch of fashion-forward irreverence to the soft, billowy, bohemian silhouettes. This collection was all about loose layers, relaxed cuts, fresh bursts of color, and lots and lots of statement accessories (my favorite being the chunky bangles). Silk maxi dresses, shorts paired with loose tunics, deconstructed suits - you get the picture. So check out the SLIDESHOW of backstage shots and fresh outfits!
