I have entirely too much to say [& the bestest cred wherefrom to yak it] about this darkly horrific & adorably amaranthine show currently up at FIT; tomorrow, if the drummer stays calm[ish], i will stick all those words up on the blog I never wanted, but now feel impelled, to write. Here, tho, is an amazing dress by Rodarte. Unless, as is always possible, I have been pre-scooped--I am a bit late coming in, after all--there will be more. Particularly for my dark blood, there will be The Hat.

Accessories designer Natalia Brilli is another one of those grown-up goth visionaries. Like Gareth Pugh and Olivier Bobin, Brilli designs pieces that are dark, conceptual, intriguing, and daring. Belgian-born and Paris-based, Brilli attended La Cambre in Brussels and started out in the theater, designing sets and costumes. Gradually she began collaborations with fashion designers. In 2003 she enrolled at Paris’ Institut Francais de la Mode (IFM). Here she began her devotion to accessories design. In 2004 she not only joined Rochas under Olivier Theyskens, but also launched her own line. Her handmade leather jewelry and accessories are now like ink spreading across the globe. From sculptural bags to layered necklaces, the weighty black make Brilli’s pieces look serious — but they often have a humorous tint. She’s made a laptop sleeve with a keyboard molded on the outside, and her signature “Nolex” bracelet (bottom image), which is a leather-wrapped fake watch.

A white leather and black suede shoe boot from Gareth Pugh. Double platform sole with a skinny wedge heel. Zip fastening at the back of the ankle. Peep toe. Cut out details along the upper. Futuristic concept with monochrome detailing, these sky high wedges embody two key trends this season. Wear with black drainpipes and sculptural shapes to capture Pugh’s directional style.

Okay, it has come to my attention that Leigh Bowery is certainly the fashion muse of the End of the First Decade of the New Millennium. i hope he is somewhere & that, wherever he is, he is enjoying this. i also hope that, per his influence, people become so inured to seeing people wearing silken black inner tubes that they become work wear for whoever may so want, including temps. i am not kidding, btw.
