Half-finished gowns are draped over mannequins; on one is a swirling length of intricately pleated black silk held together by tiny stitches and pins. There are desks covered in sketches, and rails and rails of dresses - exotic creations of the type worn by Oscar winners to film premieres and awards ceremonies.
