My love of fashion began with handbags, an obsession that is still going strong and for good reason! The right bag is an essential ingredient to any ensemble with the power to make or break your overall look. Handbags are definitely splurge-worthy items to which the principle of quality over quantity should be adhered. A new year is upon us and with that comes the motivation to cultivate a new and more fabulous you! My first splurge for 2009 will absolutely be on a new handbag, something chic and practical that keep me perpetually fabulous this year and in the years to come. I've been doing my research and have rounded up some fabulous picks.

Ah, the elusive Birkin bag. Because the world needed another reason to be jealous of Jane Birkin, Hermés had to create a bag in her honor, and as is the case with so many of these icon-inspired handbags, we had to have it. But with a price tag that starts at a whopping $6,000 and a wait list that's probably that many names long, the chances of getting one are about as low as our chances of seeing Posh without one (which is never).

This Spring You'll Be Wearing a New Color: Croissant?

While bright hues are certainly welcome come spring, muted, neutral tones have emerged richer than ever and can bring an understated yet chic touch to outfits and accessories. The colors on Pantone's Spring 2008 Fashion Color Report are no exception, with 'Croissant' taking its place as one of my favorites. The shade is just as buttery as its name would suggest, so bring some balance to its smoothness with bolder, statement-making pieces in black, gold, or even red, or try adding a patent accent for a little edge. And don't even think about calling it 'tan' or 'beige'! More golden yellow than brown, this creamy, versatile shade is in a class of its own.
