Go Classic Glam Like Gwen Stefani

    image
Sabrina Newman on Oct 29, 2009 4:20 PM PDT
For the Fashion Group International's Night of Stars in New York City, rocker Gwen Stefani was her usual fashionable and fabulous self but took went for a more subdued, sophisticated style. Gwen wore a halter LBD and added some shape to the look by cinching the waist with a black belt. She finished the look with black patent pumps, a black LAMB clutch, and a dazzling Lorraine Schwartz bracelet. This look was polished, chic, and sexy but in a subtle way. And unlike most of Gwen's ensembles, it's totally wearable and can work beautifully on anyone, no matter what your age or size.

Even though you always feel lucky when the sun's shining and the sky is nearly cloudless, the beautiful sunny weather you're enjoying is no coincidence! The stars have aligned in favor of keeping the sun out of hiding and for you to savor a day outdoors, and the least you could do to show your gratitude is to listen to the stars' stellar advice! Whether you're long overdue for a serious break or just can't resist squeezing in a perfect-weather beach day no matter how packed your schedule is, it's vital to lounge in style. Tauruses can cover up with a Marc Jacobs bandeau dress that's so cute, you might not even want to reveal your suit! On the other hand, Capricorns can fully enjoy the gorgeous weather and scenery with a retro-chic Juicy Couture floppy hat that'll help keep the blazing sun out of your face and eyes. Before you head out to enjoy that beach volleyball court or blow-up floating lounge chair, check the slideshow to see what kind of beachy goodies your sign should be toting along!

Springy Men's Scarves Move To The Lightweight Division

    image

In essence, a scarf is one of two things: 1) a piece of fabric that you wrap around your neck to keep you warm or 2) a decorative item that hangs on your neck like garland on a Christmas tree. For the spring and summer seasons, the latter is what we look for. Ultimately, a scarf in the warmer season doesn't really serve a purpose. I have a lightweight scarf that I wore on a nice sunny day and no matter how warm I got, I refused to take it off because it pulled the outfit together in a way no other accessory can. Also, I didn't want to expose my neck in fear that it would be grotesquely sweaty. Nonetheless, lightweight scarves for the warmer seasons work well when the fabric is breathable and when it is wrapped loosely around your neck with dapper flair. For something a little simpler, opt for any of American Apparel's sheer jersey scarves. If you're going for that urban bandit look, Urban Outfitters can make you look like the ultimate hipster. And if you really wanna go all out, Phillip Lim's beaded silk scarf can turn a bunch of heads. Check out the slideshow for more man-friendly scarves.

Looking for a jacket that's timeless yet on-trend and will get you through winter and well into spring? Look no further! Military jackets have been seen all over the runways from Gucci to Moschino, worn on celebs like Mischa Barton and Victoria Beckham, and featured on street fashion blogs from Los Angeles to Paris. Military jackets are usually characterized by bold knob buttons, a double-breasted fit, and come in neutral and classic colors like black, cream, or navy. Whether they're mid-length or cropped, you can find something that suits your style and climate. Worried about price? I've found military-inspired jackets that hit every price point from $40 to over $700. The cape cadet coat from Elizabeth & James brings a dramatic military flair to any ensemble, while a wool-blend tweed jacket is suited for everyday wear. So snap into attention and get shopping! Get Leighton Meester's Playfully Polished Look

    image

While she radiates prim and proper Upper East Side prepster from head to toe as Blair Waldorf on the hit show Gossip Girl, off screen, Leighton Meester is a bit more adventurous and is cultivating an eclectic and diverse style that can't be as easily pinned down as that of her alter-ego. At the 15th annual Shop 'Til It Stops fashion show and tribute in New York, Leighton mixed and matched with two fabulous Brian Reyes pieces- a brown corset dress which she topped off with a black blazer, instantly rendering the sexy cocktail frock more day-time appropriate. She rounded out the mix with killer black peep-toe platforms and a studded statement-cuff for a look that was sophisticated and chic with a definite funky, youthful edge.
