While I wouldn't pass up a pair of Choos or Louboutins if they were handed to me, I have to say they're not exactly my favorites. Maybe I've ogled them too much, or maybe they're too easily recognizable, but they just don't do anything for me! Needless to say, I am always on the lookout for new shoe designers whose footwear I can't help but crave. The latest pairs to catch my eye are by omelle! Topsiders: Comfy And Cute!

    image
Lisanne Silverman on May 6, 2009 2:23 PM PDT
I used to be one of those people who didn't do comfortable footwear. I pretty much still am, with the exception of a few pairs. But after spending way too much money on intensive healing pedicures and way too much time in the foot care aisle (can you say... ew?), I surrendered to my comfort-loving feet. Kind of. Here's the thing: there are plenty of comfortable, stylish shoes out there. But are they affordable? Not really. And a lot of them try so hard to be both stylish and comfortable at once that they ultimately end up looking ridiculous. So when it comes to comfort, I've realized classic simplicity is best. One of the most popular casual footwear are Topsiders, with Sperry leading the pack. These preppy, summery shoes are as great out on the boat with shorts and a hoodie as they are with your favorite floral sundress. Give your feet a break this summer- you have all winter to suffer in gorgeous heels! Click over to Shop Therapy for more on these carefree kicks.

Hot Collaboration: New Balance for Nine West

Nine West is known for their fabulous footwear styles available at incredibly affordable prices. Now, they've added fashion-forward sneakers into the mix as part of a collaboration with New Balance. Sneakers are becoming quite the "it" items this season and are great alternatives to classic staples like platforms and pumps. The New Balance for Nine West collection marks a fresh take on classic kicks with funky styles available in a range of shades that will add a super cool street-chic sensibility to any look. Some styles stay on the minimal side and can be worn with anything while others were designed to truly make a statement. I especially love the splashy styles, all of which are totally in line with Spring's retro 80s trend. These terrific styles are also perfectly priced and retail for less than $100!

A Well-Shod Tribute to Salvatore Ferragamo's Fabulous Footwear

To coincide with the recent 80th anniversary of Ferragamo, the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art mounted an ambitious commemorative exhibition. The gorgeous accompanying catalog, SALVATORE FERRAGAMO: Evolving Legend 1928 -2008 (Skira Editore, 2008), features fascinating archival photos, sketches, and drawings, exploring company founder Salvatore Ferragamo's design process - which melded painstaking construction techniques, comfort, and wildly creative design. Most of the Hollywood glitterati of the day were fans, including Marilyn Monroe, Greta Garbo, Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth, Audrey Hepburn, and Marlene Dietrich. The catalogue also includes contributions from the exhibition co-curator and director of Florence's Museo Salvatore Ferragamo, Stefania Ricci, Samuel Kung (chairman and director of MoCA Shanghai), and Wanda Ferragamo, Honorary Chairman of the company and the wife of the late Salvatore. Click over to Fashiontribes to see photos from the catalog, and of course, the shoes. Images copyright Museo Salvatore Ferragamo.
