Halloween Costume Pieces And Accessories You Can Actually ...

In your quest for the ultimate Halloween costume this year, you have a few options. For one, you can spend $60+ on a kitschy packaged costume that at least 10 other people will also be wearing... and chances are you'll never touch it again. Secondly, you can go the clever route and piece together your own costume.. and after a dozen trips to a handful of stores and hundreds of dollars later, you'll have the best Halloween ensemble ever... that you'll probably never touch again. But the most appealing option? Door number 3: piece together your own super-cool costume from stylish pieces that you'll actually wear way more than once! Even the most wearable trends are largely inspired by very costume-y themes: gladiator, biker, cowgirl, etc, so why not be resourceful and concoct up a costume while making a fashionable investment in the process? Channel a retro-chic flapper girl with a fringe miniskirt that can translate to a very modern night on the town, or don a sequin blazer for a cabaret/showgirl-type look that will be still be way "in" in the months to come. For more costume ideas featuring wardrobe pieces that will still be trendy even after the 31st, take a look at the slideshow!

Fabulous Flapper Fashions For Vintage Fashionistas

Today's modern woman thinks nothing of blow-drying her short hair, slipping into a skirt and blouse, driving to work and then heading out for a cocktail at the end of the day. But all these things wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the rebellion of the young ladies of the 1920s known as Flappers. These women--gasp!--showed their knees, exercised their independence, embraced their sexuality and did it all with style. Their unusual habit of walking around with their galoshes unfastened, making "flapper" sounds, lent them their name and fortunately they left behind some real gems for today's vintage fashionistas. Just click the slideshow to see the selection!

Still at a loss on what to be this Halloween? Let's go back in time and visit the styles of the Roaring 20s! The 1920s marked the arrival of a new independent woman called the flapper. Found at speakeasies and jazz clubs, their look showcased bare arms, short hemlines, heavy makeup, and sleek short hair (think of Velma and Roxie from the musical "Chicago"). Designers today have taken inspiration from the 20s and you too can find clothes and accessories that will have people saying you're "the bee's knees." Take a look at this color-block flapper inspired dress with a rhinestone encrusted neckline or these shoes with a unique wishbone style strap that will have you dancing all night long. Vintage Style: Sunshine Finds for Vintage Fashionistas

It's that time of year when the Back to School sales are in full swing. And while I'm won't be stocking up on any yellow No. 2 pencils, I am inspired to sport something in the sunshine shade during the remaining carefree days of summer. Yellow is a surefire attention-getter (which is why there are so many yellow taxicabs on our streets) but that also makes it especially tricky to wear. Try pairing it with neutrals for a chic ensemble or with navy for a nautical look. And if you think you can't wear yellow because it washes you out, don't give up without a fight. With choices that range from banana to canary, you are sure to find a sunshine shade that is just right for you. Still need some inspiration? Then click the SLIDESHOW for a collection of yummy yellow vintage finds.

Do the words vintage, burlesque, glamorous, pinup, and old Hollywood have you curious? Stylehiver MargotBlanche's style embodies all of the above, and I think it needs to be shared. Her saves include everything you need to rival the likes of Dita Von Teese. From hair pieces complete with feathers and intricate beading that would have 1920's flappers jealous to platform pumps and 1950s-style dresses with tight silhouettes, this girl has a handle on the best of old-world glam. Make sure to check out her selection of vixen-worthy corsets-- they will no doubt have you ready to go retro. MargotBlanche's hive is a wonderful spot to gain inspiration whether vintage vixen is your natural everyday style or your idea of the perfect costume. Check out her saves for yourself, but first check out some of my favorites of hers in my slideshow!
