Chanel Fall 2009 Venice Makeup Collection

    image
Lesley Scott on Jul 7, 2009 5:25 AM PDT
Coco Chanel viewed Venice as a city of great intrigue - simultaneously dramatic and fragile, much like herself. The Chanel Makeup Studio used their imagination to bring this water-themed city to life for Fall 2009 in a palette reflective of its shimmery facades, mosaics, and sparkly aquatic lagoons. Chanel's Global Creative Director, Peter Philips, recently created Venetian-inspired runway looks for the 2009/10 Cruise show - held on the beaches of Venice - with tones of rich sienna, deep rose, mysterious greys, and dusky greens that can be softened for day or emboldened come evening. Meet Rad Hourani, Indie Fashion Designer Darling

    image
Lesley Scott on Jun 23, 2009 5:24 AM PDT
If the relentless, marketing-driven McFashion Machine has you trend-weary, Rad Hourani feels your pain. "I'm allergic to trends," explains the cerebral designer in the latest edition of prim. Magazine. "There's nothing scarier than making fashion - or anything else, for that matter - that everyone agrees on." Unlike so many of his big-name peers on the luxury conglomerate payroll, Hourani makes gender-blind clothing ("for people who do not define themselves primarily as men or women") that are independent even of the seasons, fashion or otherwise. "Fashion is about clothes transcending simple functionality and gaining symbolic, evocative power by engaging in a dialogue with their environment and time." The Summer "It" Accessory: An Everything-Proof iPod Speaker Case

    image
Alex Gambardella on May 26, 2009 3:25 PM PDT
Hanging out by the beach/lake/pool sans tune-age is no fun, but neither is accidentally drowning your hapless iPod. Sure, there are protective iPod cases, and there are hardly waterproof portable speaker systems, but going with just one or the other is bound to leave your tunes either safely covered but too quiet to liven up a pool party, or a disaster waiting to happen once the splashes start up. Instead, pack this clever water-/spill-/shatter-proof "Ego Ice" iPod Sound Case which also floats! This handy contraption fits the iPod Classic, iPod Photo, iPod Video & all iPod Nanos. Grab one for yourself in preparation for summer at Otterbox.com. For more fashionably techie finds, make sure to click on over to Fashiontribes!

    image

It was only a matter of time... fine jewelry inspired by pets such as dachshunds, pit bulls, poodles, chihuahuas, and labs (with German Shepherds, terriers, retrievers and schnauzers soon to come). Made from 18k matte yellow and white gold, and encrusted with hand-cut onyx, sapphires, and conflict-free micro-pave diamonds, the new collection from Diamond Dog New York also includes paws, hearts, and bones. Created by Suzanne Mates, a longtime recording studio exec who changed careers after getting her dog and realizing "a pet can change the world," a portion of the net profits is donated to no-kill shelters, making any of the rings, earrings, or charms perfect for fun-loving accessory hounds.
