Katy Perry Interviews Karl Lagerfeld At Paris Fashion Week

    image

Quirky songstress Katy Perry chats with Karl Lagerfeld after his show at Paris Fashion Week in an exclusive interview for Elle.com. It's certainly a rare chance to peek into the personality of one of the world's most esteemed designers. Is he intimidating? Yes, but there is a certain warmth about his demeanor, even as he corrects Katy when she expresses her adoration for the fabric, not metal embellishment on a particular dress. The two discuss music and fashion, and we learn fun facts like what he listened to as he got dressed this morning and what song he feels describes himself best (by none other than Lily Allen, of course). His response to the requisite "if you could trade places with any designer" question is a careful mix of smug satisfaction and pure respect. Oh, and he makes jokes too! Katy Perry Rocks Rupert Sanderson For Karl Lagerfeld ...

UK shoe designer Rupert Sanderson recently announced his second collaboration with the legendary Karl Lagerfeld, updating his popular Asteroid and Finesse heel styles for spring/summer 2010. Lagerfeld wanted a futuristic-looking shoe to coordinate with his runway show, and Sanderson obliged by adding a geometric heel, then took it to another level by altering ankle straps to loop under the sole and bolting them in place for a dominatrix-inspired detail. In colors and fabrics like white hot suede and metallic silver leather, they were a dangerously perfect complement to Lagerfeld's futuristic 'rock goddess' collection. Katy Perry attended Lagerfeld's show in a pair from Sanderson's debut collection for Karl- what do you think of her front row look? Would you wear these shoes? (See more of them here.)

Paris Fashion Week: Chanel RTW Spring/Summer 2010

    image

Karl Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais into a rustic barn setting for the Spring 2010 ready-to-wear show at Paris Fashion Week, and managed to switch out at least part of his signature uniform for- gasp- jeans- perhaps hinting at the lighthearted display to come. Models emerged from the barn dressed in springy versions of iconic Chanel tweed separates and frothy chiffon frocks paired with high heeled clogs and platform heels. Colors were subdued- black, white, and versions of taupe and cream made up the palette- and thus the focus remained on texture and form. Lagerfeld left the idea of wholesome, raised on the farm innocence far behind - the girls sported tattoos giving the illusion of thigh-high stockings, skirts were slit well through the thigh, and beehive buns were a tiny bit tousled as if to suggest a recent romp in the hay (pun not intended). Choosing such a strong theme is difficult as you run the risk of falling into a cliche, but Lagerfeld's execution kept the focus mostly on the clothes, and everything else was an accessory whose role was to accentuate and not distract- this is the essence of ready-to-wear, after all. The overall mood was whimsical and relaxed, striking a fine balance between luxury and accessibility and reminding us why we appreciate luxury fashion in the first place. Get Erin O'Connor's Neon Look At London Fashion Week

    image

The fall runways were splattered with bright hues and neon shades. Erin O'Connor showed us how to do it best at the Vivienne Westwood Red Label fashion show during London Fashion Week, by adding just a splash to an all black or neutral outfit. The model strutted her stuff front row at the show in a sexy fitted sequin blazer and with some slouchy black trousers. However, what took her outfit from chic to extraordinary was the large neon pink purse. Neon can be a hard trend to tackle (like the Michael Kors highlighter yellow trapper hat) but when done in small doses it can really pack a punch with out making you look like your dressed for an '80s party. Check out the slideshow for how to get Erin's look as well as some other neon accessories. Photo credit: PR Photos
