Flirt Shamelessly This Season With Fall's Spiky Lashes

    image
Alex Gambardella on Oct 1, 2009 2:25 PM PDT
I've always been a serious eyeliner girl, collecting everything from smoky kohl pencils in every color to budge-proof creme liner pots to liquid glitter liner. But my most recent beauty obsession? Spiky lashes -- either blacked-out versions of your natural lashes, or a little added help from a handy set of falsies like Kim Kardashian's. Unlike thick, showgirl-esque, llama-looking lashes that focus on heavy volume, fall's take on the lash trend gives you dramatic length without verging on unnatural. In other words, you'll have people commenting on how jealous they are of your flirty peepers instead of asking if you just walked off a Vegas stage. Take a look at the slideshow to browse some products that'll help you get your lashes long and spiky! Photo Credit: PR Photos

Hot In The Hive: Shu Uemura Tokyo Lash Bar 2009

It's tough walking into a Sephora lately without being overwhelmed by the store's display of false eyelashes, boasting an impressive variety of designs, cuts, and colors ranging from modest to Vegas showgirl. However, the 2009 additions to Shu Uemura's Tokyo Lash Bar bring a level of innovation to your peepers that put any collection human-looking lashes to shame. Designed by the company's top creative minds from across the globe and inspired by nature scenes, the collection's premium edition lashes channel snowflakes and ski slopes with "snow twist," crisp autumn leaves with "goldglam leaf," and the ocean waves with "marine tide," just to name a few. While the designs may not be practical for an everyday night out on the town, you can't deny that they're gorgeously inventive! You could always stock up for next Halloween...

    Price: $79 a pair

Get Flirtatious Lashes with New Lash Extension Treatments!

Eyelash extension treatments are this year's "it" beauty treatment. It's a semi-permanent extension that gives your lashes a huge lift - without makeup! Just imagine, having long, gorgeous, flirty lashes for a few months. The initial treatment can take two hours run up to $500, but it's totally worth it for a fantastic look sans makeup. Madonna's have diamond studs on them and cost around $10,000, while Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan opt for the much subtler mink version. For a less serious commitment, you can get a semi-permanent lash extension for $50 that lasts around ten days - perfect for a special occasion or vacation. For $45, I Love My Lashes offers an at-home treatment, which takes about thirty minutes to apply, and lasts up to fifteen days. Why not get a few girlfriends together and make a night of it? It's practically the same costs as cabs and a night out! Don't trust yourself? Check lashpros.com to find a professional near you!

Update Your Makeup Routine With New Eyeliners And Eyeshadows!

    image

I was never an eyeshadow/eye liner girl, until I met that perfect palette. Until then, I wore basics - dark brown mascara, dark brown liner, and MAYBE a little glitter if it was a special occasion. Then, I happened upon the NARS 'best' Palette, and my life was forever changed. How simple it was to change my look for day and evening - I could hardly believe it! You know it's good when your friends roll their eyes and say, "Ugh, how do you get your shadow to look like that?!" One piece was all I needed to update my look - and at a reasonable price at that. Check out my SLIDESHOW for a few ways to update your eye makeup routine!

LA Fashion Week: Nonja McKenzie's Flirty-Femme Spring Collection

Local LA stylist turned designer Nonja McKenzie shined at Mercedes-Benz LA Fashion Week with her shimmering Spring '09 collection of beaded shifts, satin tops, and silk jumpsuits. Lame and chiffon butterfly-sleeve tops fluttered down the runway, followed by an array of sixties and seventies inspired dresses in soft fabrics and buttery colors. A plethora of flattering wrap dresses with flirtatious ties swinging to and fro brought a certain girlish charm to the collection, while leopard print and silk halter jumpsuits added the necessary sex appeal. Nonja revamped long-sleeved minidresses and body-conscious asymmetrical dresses with ruching down the sides of sleeves and skirts, but her beadwork stole the show with beaded shifts, billowing tops, and my personal favorite--a black and silver beaded eyelash minidress! Check out our favorite looks from Nonja McKenzie's Spring 2009 Collection in the slideshow!
