    Our Favorite Beauty Products... From Seventh Grade!

    image
    Ida Hsiang on Aug 17, 2009 5:19 AM PDT
    We were randomly surfing around Hot Topic the other day (What? Shut up.) when we stumbled across perhaps the greatest cosmetic product EVER MANUFACTURED: Twilight Edward Body Shimmer. OK, we'd make fun, but we were also young once. We also had crushes on fake boys, and we also slathered ourselves with some seriously frightening beauty products. (Hey, if they'd made Holden Caulfield Coconut Body Splash, we probably would have bought a case.) Let us take you back to seventh grade, when it was cool to smell like Dippity Do, cherry air freshener and Mall.

    * White Eyeliner and Mascara
    What did white eyeliner say, exactly? I'm being medicated for pinkeye? This Liquid Papr-for-eyes look was like typo correction... for your face.

    *Urban Decay Eyeshadow
    "ARGH! I'm so full of rage! I will express it by wearing makeup colors called 'Dumpster' and 'Afterbirth'!" God, we were edgy.

    Ready For Spring Already? Stylehive's Stylescopes Has Your ...

    This winter season may be trudging along as slow as ever, giving us only minute peeks at what we have in store for springtime, but that doesn't mean that you should have to live in limbo like the weather seems to be! The signs insist that spring will be here before we know it (you didn't lose an hour of sleep for nothing!) so you might as well kiss the "blahs" goodbye and forge ahead into festive florals and bright colors fit for the (hopefully) sunny weather ahead! And while summery clothing may not be the wisest way to kick the season into gear (it is still a little too cold for flip-flops and tank tops), there's no reason why your beauty regime can't be warmth-inspired to channel the blue skies ahead! You'd be surprised at how easy it is to perk up your mood (and your look) with springy eye-brightening liners and highlighters, complexion buffers, and even scents! Pisces can spread the spring fever with a peppy floral perfume by Marc Jacobs, Virgos can play up their peepers with some stylishly long lashes, and Cancers will learn how to fake a golden glow with Smashbox shimmery bronzer! Check out the slideshow to see what beauty boosts your sign has in store this week!

    Hello Kitty Is The Purrfect Balance Of Naughty And Nice In ...

    Your friends may make fun of you for your perhaps age-inappropriate Hello Kitty collection of pens, mugs, linens, guitars, jewelry, cutlery, furniture, and what-have-you, but who are they kidding? Despite her sweet and youthful appearance, Hello Kitty isn't just for kids, and quite frankly, with upscale Sanrio-loving designers like Tarina Tarantino and Kimora Lee Simmons for Zales, she's much more popular with the adults these days than she ever was with the youngsters! And now, with the help of MAC Cosmetics, she just got a whole lot more grown-up! The much-anticipated Hello Kitty makeup collection is finally available for purchase today in MAC stores and MAC-carrying department stores (yes, you can actually buy it and take it home -- it's not just on display for pre-orders or to tease us anymore)! The collection contains three different "lines" -- Hello Kitty Mild, Hello Kitty Wild, and Hello Kitty Accessories -- with coordinating shades in each that range from pretty girlie pinks to bold modish blues and neon hues. While the sweet inspired products include a variety of makeup zip-cases, feline-like lashes, and loads of character-influenced glosses, glitters, and pigments, I have to say I much prefer the products that they've emblazoned with the Hello Kitty logo over the plain pots of "inspired" shades that they've also thrown in the collection (I don't really see the point unless you're truly indulging in your obsession). Overall, MAC's spin on our favorite cartoon cat is so dark and funky that she looks more like "Goodbye Kitty" than her usual jolly self, but I have to say, I'm kind of diggin' this gritty new side to the classic Kitty! Check out the slideshow for some of the products inspired by the fancy feline!

    Update Your Makeup Routine With New Eyeliners And Eyeshadows!

    I was never an eyeshadow/eye liner girl, until I met that perfect palette. Until then, I wore basics - dark brown mascara, dark brown liner, and MAYBE a little glitter if it was a special occasion. Then, I happened upon the NARS 'best' Palette, and my life was forever changed. How simple it was to change my look for day and evening - I could hardly believe it! You know it's good when your friends roll their eyes and say, "Ugh, how do you get your shadow to look like that?!" One piece was all I needed to update my look - and at a reasonable price at that. Check out my SLIDESHOW for a few ways to update your eye makeup routine!

    Shine This Holiday Season With Frosty, Shimmery Makeup!

    Every girl likes to add a little more sparkle to her makeup during the holidays! And why not? The key is to not make yourself look like you should be hanging next to that tacky metallic ball on the Christmas tree! Think subtle shimmer, not big specks of glitter. Also, it's best to stick to one feature to glimmer up, like lips or eyes. Try out this crazy shiny Dior lip gloss or this Laura Mercier frosty cream eye shadow. If you're following the mineral makeup craze, pick up Bare Escentuals Feather Light Mineral Veil - it's a fantastic finishing powder that has a slight shimmer and works on all skin tones. And don't forget your body - pouf a little Benefit Kitten on any patch of bare skin to complete the look! Check out the SLIDESHOW for our picks from the Hive, and have a little fun with frosty makeup this holiday season!
