The Met Costume Institute Gala Is Tonight!

    image
Lisanne Silverman on May 4, 2009 12:31 PM PDT
The Met Ball is tonight, and in addition to the excitement of who's wearing (and bringing) who there's the event's theme, "The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion," which explores the industry's perception of beauty and the power that models have in influencing the fashion of their generation. This year's event is chaired by Marc Jacobs, and co-chaired by Kate Moss, Justin Timberlake, and Anna Wintour, and the models and icons featured in the exhibit include Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Shalom Harlow, Kate Moss, Amber Valletta, and Iman, among others. You can see the exhibit for yourself at the Met's Tisch Galleries between May 6th and May 9th. And now for the gossip-- Karl Lagerfeld: not attending! Kate will wear Marc! Coco is *gasp* not going with Zac Posen! It's going to rain! Naomi Campbell might not show! Oh my... I must stop reading Page 6. For updates go to Modelinia!

Get A Glimpse Of The Yves Saint Laurent Exhibit At San ...

After its debut in Montreal, Yves Saint Laurent, a forty-year retrospective exhibit of the fashion designer's career, has made its way onto American soil in an exclusive United States presentation at the de Young Museum in San Francisco, California. Appropriately placed in the city that recalls the revolution of the 1960's, the exhibit follows the long career of this revolutionary women's fashion designer, reminding us that women didn't always wear pants or suits. In his forty year career, Yves Saint Laurent revolutionized women's fashion, liberating women from the confines of conventional femininity by blurring gender roles with empowered silhouettes like his 1966 classic tuxedo suit for women, the Le Smoking suit. As the first French haute couturier to come out with a full ready-to-wear line, YSL also made modern women's wear both fashionable and accessible to women. With clothes on loan from the Foundation Pierre Berge-Yves Saint Laurent in Paris, the Yves Saint Laurent exhibit showcases over 120 fully accessorized outfits along with original sketches and runway show video footage. Read on for more on the exhibit, and click on the slideshow for a glimpse of images and outfits from Yves Saint Laurent as well as a few original sketches featured in the exhibit. Yves Saint Laurent is currently at San Francisco's de Young Museum until April 5, 2009.

Marc Jacobs Vans Hit the Red Carpet at the "Milk" Premiere!

    image
    Dino-Ray Ramos on Nov 4, 2008 6:23 PM PST
On October 28 the actors of "Milk" hit the red carpet and I was special enough to have my own little nook right there where all the action was happening! The celebs who played out the life of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official, were all at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco (well, most of them were): Emile Hirsch, James Franco, Allison Pill, Josh Brolin, Diego Luna and of course Sean Penn (who plays the title character). Everyone looked handsome and dapper, but the one piece of clothing that stood out to me was a dude who went casual chic with pair of slip-on Vans by Marc Jacobs from Spring/Summer 2007 (unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to interrogate him). Out of ALL the luxury clothing that stomped on this red carpet, this stood out to me. Shocking, huh? But I do have a legitimate reason- I saw these quirky wingtip Marc Jacobs Vans at the sneaker store, Huf in San Francisco. I demonstrated shopping control and didn't buy them because I wasn't ready to add weight to my credit card. A couple weeks later, when I was ready to buy them, they were gone. I have been kicking myself ever since. Fortunately, since I saw a random person on the red carpet with these chic sneakers, it reinvigorated my obsession. The Vans were limited edition, but luckily, I found a site that had the sneakers with Marc Jacobs's personality written all over them. But if you do care to buy a pair, act fast. You don't want to make the same mistake I did. They don't call them limited edition for nothing.
