Michael Jackson: "The Way You Make Me Feel"

    image
Lisanne Silverman on Jun 26, 2009 12:17 PM PDT
Yesterday's news that Michael Jackson had passed away was a shock to not just the music world, but the world as a whole. Though headlines in recent years painted the entertainer as bizarre and reclusive, fans of the King of Pop will remember him as a superstar whose unparalleled talent and dedication to charity made him a living legend and an icon of our generation. Ask anyone which Michael Jackson hit is their favorite and you'd be hard pressed not to find someone who doesn't list at least five. His dancing was infectious, and his music videos were unforgettable-- in all of his uniqueness, he managed to unite us all. Let's go back to "The Way You Make Me Feel" from 1987's "BAD"-- who could forget the skintight black dress, the big hair, and the high heels? And of course, those moves. He will truly be missed, but his influence will remain forever.

Hot In The Hive: The Sphere Sleep System By Karim Rashid

    image
Alex Gambardella on May 13, 2009 6:19 AM PDT
Ever had one of those days when you wake up and just wish you could stay in bed all day? Oh, just about every day, right? As comfortably inviting as your current bed may already be, imagine if it also had a built-in massage system. And a 32-inch TV and theater system. And a champagne holder! Basically, what if that tempting bed of yours was literally an all-in-one pleasure cove of relaxation, entertainment, and pure sleeping bliss? Clearly, The Sphere by Karim Rashid is a bed/haven only for the extremely self-disciplined, because with its advanced massaging capabilities by Hollandia International and its built-in entertainment system, mustering up the motivation to actually set foot outside its cozy high-tech enclosure would be a daily battle. Though I guess with its LED canopy lights, you technically could get reading and work done without even having to get out of bed to so much as flip a light switch. If it weren't for the need to actually eat, I could probably justify living in the thing -- I guess the only thing it's missing is literally the kitchen sink! Until that upgrade comes along, check out the ridiculously luxurious customizable bed at the Hollandia International official site!

Price: contact Hollandia International for ordering info! My guess is not cheap...

Hot In The Hive: The Nintendo DSi

    image
Alex Gambardella on Apr 7, 2009 6:17 AM PDT
I don't know about you, but as a closet video game geek (okay, maybe not so "closet"), I was super excited about the long-awaited release of Nintendo's newest portable entertainment system, the Nintendo DSi. As the third generation product of the company's sleek DS line, the DSi doesn't look too much different than its predecessor, the DS Lite, at first glance. However, with the incorporation of two built-in cameras (yes, two!), a music player and sound recorder, and Wi-Fi capabilities for its very own "app" store, this updated gadget is indeed new and improved in the fun department despite its similar physicality to its older relatives. The two cameras (one internal for self-portraits and another external for maximum lurking potential) allow you to capture and manipulate snapshots, similar to Apple's addictive PhotoBooth, as well as keep photo journals with the device's calendar feature. With the SD memory card slot you can upload and listen to your own music and even distort sound with a swipe of the stylus, and with the DSiWare software, you can access the DSi's online store and purchase games and apps for increased time-killing competence. Since I've only had my DS Lite for a year or two and buying a brand-new console isn't exactly in my meager budget, I'll just have to encourage fellow gaming gals to make the purchase so I can get my hands on it for a couple hours and test it on my own!

    Price: $169.99
