    Go Sexy-Sleek Like Leighton Meester

    image
Sabrina Newman on Jun 11, 2009 2:20 PM PDT
At the CW Upfronts, a blonde Leighton Meester demonstrated how to rock the menswear trend the right way by perfectly balancing sexy with sophisticated. The Gossip Girl star paired a structured black blazer with a pair of black shorts- both by Jil Sander- and gave these timeless style staples a modern edge with some seriously funky Brian Atwood pumps, adding a dose of sex appeal by showcasing her gorgeous gams. To maintain the minimalist, sophisticated motif, Leighton refrained from accessory overload, adding just a touch of glitz to her look with two subtle, yet stunning, rings worn on each hand- the perfect finishing touch to this seriously chic look. The short suit is a perfect alternative to the pantsuit for summer and can work from from the boardroom to the bar and be sexed up or toned down to suit any occasion. Celeb Style: Go Sexy and Sophisticated Like Audrina Patridge

    image

Hills star Audrina Patridge has definitely been making some noteworthy improvements in the style department and has been looking increasingly more fab and fashion-forward in recent months. At the Maxim Hot 100 Party, Audrina struck the perfect balance between sexy and sophisticated. The reality star showcased her killer legs in a midnight blue Doo.ri minidress teamed with jewel-encrusted Giuseppe Zanotti for Balmain sandals and added some sleek sophistication to the look with a black Kris Van Assche tuxedo jacket. She accessorized with a chic Alexander McQueen clutch and kept the jewelry to a minimum with a subtle necklace and ring, to keep the look from being too cluttered (with shoes like that, you definitely don't need to go accessory-wild!). I loved this ensemble because in addition to being ultra chic and wearable, each piece is super versatile, definitely something I always like to look for in my purchases.

    Recession Chic: Multi-Functional Items

    image

With our nation in a state of economic uncertainty, certain spending restrictions have to be made- even the celebs are doing it! I, like many, have been forced to really consider the value of my purchases before whipping out the credit card. One way to expand your wardrobe while still downsizing on the amount of purchases made is with multi-functional items. I'm not talking about a blazer that can be worn with a bunch of different ensembles (although such items are worthy investments in their own right), I'm talking about one piece that can be re-configured and worn in totally different ways. I have tracked down several of these must-have items and rounded them up to share with you and help you stay fabulous during this time of downsizing. Check out my SLIDESHOW for my top multi-functional fashion picks!

    Spring Trend Alert: Watercolor Prints

    image
Adriana Nova on Apr 27, 2009 10:21 AM PDT
Watercolor prints have been declared one of the "it" trends for spring, from Coco Rocha sashaying in a demure rose-spattered A-line dress in H&M's Spring campaign to red carpet regulars like Vanessa Williams adding an artsy touch to their ensembles with watercolor print clutches, shoes, and scarves. A subtler alternative to bold prints, watercolor motifs are still dramatic in their own way and add an avant-garde yet feminine sensibility to any outfit. Walter, Elizabeth and James, Tracy Reese, and Black Halo are among the designers who have included graceful watercolor-inspired pieces in their spring collections. Apart from its visual merits, what's also fab about this trend is that it comes without an expiration date. Like quality art, it can be kept and sported for years and not appear dated at all. Careful not to overdo it, though: one impressionist piece per outfit makes the best impression. Check out the slideshow for stylish ways to channel your inner Monet!

Style Essentials: Our Top Ten Must-Have T-Shirts!

    image
Anna Yu on Apr 1, 2009 1:21 PM PDT
Ask anyone what they have the most in their wardrobe (besides underwear and socks), the answer is most likely t-shirts. I recently made an inventory of my closet, and let's just say that I don't need to buy anymore t-shirts for a long time. Just why are t-shirts so popular? They come in all colors, styles, and fabrics from cotton jersey to bamboo. You can also find t-shirts from a variety of price points. Some can be over $100 while others can be less than your regular cup of coffee (hello, Hanes!). Most importantly of all, they're comfortable! A lot of times, comfort doesn't always see eye-to-eye with stylish, but I like to think of t-shirts as a blank slate. Pair a t-shirt and jeans for your everyday errands or tuck the shirt into a high-waisted skirt, add some chunky jewelry and you're ready for a night out on the town. Here's my list of top essential t-shirt styles everyone should have in their closet.

    1. The classic crew neck: definitely a basic staple. These are the best to wear to the gym or even to work if it's a super casual office.
    2. A V-neck tee: it can bare a little more skin than crew neck shirts. I like to wear them with necklaces that rest just by the hollow of the neck.
    3. A pocket t-shirt: these have a casual menswear feel, perfect for brunch with your best friends or a lazy day at the park.
