Get Your Hair Out Of Your Eyes And Under A Hip Headband!

Whoever coined the phrase "let your hair down" as a means of relaxation must not have had the high-maintenance mane I have. While I can't bear the thought of getting rid of my characteristic side-swept bangs or the considerably weighty length of my hair, I have to admit that my default long straightened style does tend to hinder my productivity at times by obstructing my view of whatever it is I'm trying to accomplish. My usual solution (especially when I'm frustrated with my fringe constantly sneaking it's way back into my vision) is to just whip out a couple elastics on the spot, tether it all back & then stick in a dozen bobby pins to harness in the strays... but I can't help but feel bad for my stressed tresses, not to mention horribly un-chic. However, with so many hot hair accessories that are stylish right now, ranging from suede and beaded headbands to peacock plumed elastics (and even the resurrected scrunchie?!), there are tons of trendy ways to maintain a carefree coif that doesn't get in the way when you're trying to work! Say goodbye to haphazard messy buns and too-tight last-minute ponytails with more trendy hair pieces in the slideshow!

Hive 5: Get the Skinny on the New Fave Belt

Belts have stepped forward and become the highlight of the accessory season. And while some belts are fat and happy, others seem to be taking a more delicate approach to cinching our waists. The thinner the belt the better seems to be the rule of thumb here. We are finding that an upside to the skinny belt is that it may look a little more sophisticated and feminine, but mostly we like that it allows more movement and breathing than those corset-like belts. And although I still love the look of my chunky belts, you just can't go wrong with a itsy bitsy one! Whether you like them with a clasp, tie them in knots, or even double wrap them you can check my top 5 picks in the SLIDESHOW!

Hive 5: Ballet Flats Take Center Stage

    image

Flats have been gracing the feet of many a stylish and sensible woman for decades (See Audrey). Heels no longer signify 'going out' or 'at the office' - flats can go anywhere, let you do anything, and can make you look as good as any heel can. (Okay, it may not have the same effect as a stiletto heel does, but did I mention you can actually walk in comfort for more than a block?) My personal favorite is the ballet flat, with a comfortable rounded toe, an elastic strap for support, a ribbon or bow here or there, and maybe some elastic ruching in the back for the perfect fit and contour. Everyone from Marc Jacobs to La Garçonne and Miu Miu have been drawing inspiration from the dance-inspired footwear. To add some drama ito your life click on the SLIDESHOW to see a few of my favorite flats.
