Hot In The Hive: DEFY Bags

    image
Ida Hsiang on ноя 20, 2009 6:25 AM PST
So everywhere you go these days, people are making an effort to "go green", from light bulbs to cars to clothing. Anything that helps out Mother Earth, I'm for it! That's why when I spotted these DEFY Bags, I had to check them out. Not only are their bags unique and completely cool, but they also make a statement -- political, social commentary, or just random observations of art and culture in an eye-catching and slightly retro design. And it's not just the way the bags look that make DEFY Bags so hot, it's the fact that they also have a 'go green' attitude. These messenger bags are perfect to carry around pretty much anything you'll need throughout the day and each one is truly individual because artists hand create the picture on the front from old billboard signs. Don't see a picture that expresses the true you? You can design your own flap! Another cool thing to check for after you find the bag that shows your personality the most? Look inside and see just what kind of message the original billboard was selling! Edgy, personal and made of recycled goods, DEFY Bags are worth more than a second glance!

    Price: Small: $115.00 - Medium: $120.00 - Large: $125.00

It IS easy being green! At least at Emerald it is. These twin towers of eco-friendly condos on the east edge of Chicago'ss hot, hot, hot West Loop neighborhood offer a calm, relaxing retreat in the middle of the urban jungle. Decorated in a variety of natural greens and recycled materials, the lobby (with 2-story glass atrium), bar/lounge and boardroom are conscious common areas just steps from Restaurant Row, Greektown, The Loop and the financial district. Each unit has a private balcony -- many with picturesque skyline views -- as another way to bring nature inside. And with an appropriate address on Green Street, Emerald lives up to its gem status in luxury environmentally responsible living.

Ginnifer Goodwin Wears A Dress Made Of Hospital Scrubs

If you ever get a chance to walk around the streets of San Francisco, aside from endless views of the fog and rolling hills you'll notice numerous buildings that make up the Academy of Art University. Since the Stylehive office is neighbors with an Academy of Art building, I've seen some super snappy dressers milling about the neighborhood. Based on their long history at New York Fashion Week, I know that their students will make it in the art and fashion worlds. And it already looks like a few students got a head start! Priscilla Guimarais, Kumiko Haruyama, Nui Tanapornwattana, Audrey Wang and Tramaine Tillman created a collection of sustainable dresses for a class project. "Big Love" and "He's Just Not That Into You" actress Ginnifer Goodwin wore one such piece from the collection at 20th Anniversary Environmental Media Association Awards in Los Angeles. Made of hospital scrubs, the fabric was treated, dyed and pleated in a fabulous strapless dress. The future is bright and totally green for the lucky students and I can't wait to see more! Prismera Design is happy to announce the launch of the eco-friendly Figment Collection for Holiday 2009. Designer Laura Su was inspired by romantic combinations of metals and textures topped with a blossom or two. "Whether it has a whimsical or a gothic touch, each piece tells its own story," says Laura. The collection features fourteen pieces, priced between $28 and $170. Take a look at the Fallen Necklace ($76) which is described as a blackened dogwood blossom sits atop a tassel of gold and silver. Additionally, until November 1, Prismera Design is offering a chance to win a $100 gift certificate with any purchase from the Figment collection, and/or by subscribing to their newsletter. Lancome, Urban Decay, And More Of Your Favorite Makeup Brands ...

Using beauty products may not be the most environmentally harmful part of your daily routine (well, unless of course you're addicted to hairspray), but if you're into going the natural route for the sake of saving your skin and the planet, you're certainly not the only one! Lucky for us eco-conscious makeup mavens, some of our favorite beauty brands have jumped on the green bandwagon and made natural, organic, and eco-chic versions of their popular products. For example, Lancome's Juicy Tubes Pure are just like the old favorite, but this time with 95% natural ingredients! And Urban Decay's shadow box packs 10 of their favorite shadows into a sustainable wooden box complete with a cruelty-free eyeshadow brush. I won't be dramatic and say that a few coats of organic mascara will save the world, but hey -- every little gesture counts! Take a browse through the slideshow to see which big-name brands have gone natural!
