New York Fashion Week Spring 2010: Diane von Furstenberg

    image

I always come away from a Diane von Furstenberg show (ok, ok, a DvF "picture viewing") with more ideas than both my head and wallet can handle: tons of hair accessory inspiration, the sudden urge mix patterns without abandon, and perhaps most notably, a completely overstuffed wish list. Her Spring/Summer 2010 show at New York Fashion Week was no exception- the looks presented a highly wearable, more elegant take on globetrotter style with looks ranging from printed dresses layered under belted safari jackets to saturated desert-hued separates in a variety of textures, all topped off with colorful bangles and the most playfully whimsical hairpieces. Her use of patterns was astoundingly imaginative- blurry florals, gilded ethnic designs, and slightly abstract animal prints made for a collection that was adventurous and refined all at once, not to mention realistic-- whether intentional or not, the idea of layering a simple grey tee under an embellished dress exhibits the kind of stylish versatility we can all appreciate these days. Leather Skirts for Fall from DvF and 3.1 Phillip Lim

I saw a leather miniskirt while shopping the other day and was instantly drawn to it, but instantly wondered if I could pull it off. I decided against it, but then-- while perusing the fashion pages later-- I came across a couple of gems which helps to quell my fears of leather. I love the pleated leather mini from 3.1 Phillip Lim; it is a take on the popular skater skirt silhouette. I plan to pair it with black tights and it will look great with platform ankle booties too. Another leather skirt that caught my eye is this leather pencil skirt from Diane von Furstenberg. It works perfectly for the office as well as for after work cocktails when paired with classic leather pumps.

    image
Lisanne Silverman on May 22, 2009 5:24 AM PDT
This month, a little floral accent is just the thing to spruce up your wardrobe during this economic downpour of gloom and doom. Whether you're wearing a casual day dress or a more dramatic evening gown, make sure to keep the accessories to a minimum when sporting a floral print. Marc Jacobs, Badgley Mischka, DVF, and Missoni are just a few designers who redefined flower power and incorporated beautiful floral prints into their spring '09 ready-to-wear collections. The questions is: are you ready to rock these ultra feminine prints and sexy summer hues? Before you decide, check out a few of our favorite floral frocks and you be the judge on whether this trend is here to stay!

Shop Savvy: Coast To Coast Consignment Store Roundup!

Spring is soon around the corner and you're wondering how you€™re going to afford some new duds to update your wardrobe. Well when times are tough, the savvy get shopping €¦ at consignment stores that is. Consignment stores are a great place to sell some of your own stuff to make room for new, or just to go browse for some great deals. I€™ve rounded up some of the best stores from coast to coast to get everything from Gucci gowns to J.Crew suits; Miu Miu sandals to Nike Dunks at a fraction of the price.

    New York
Tokyo 7, 64 E 7th St, New York, NY: A hidden gem in the East Village. A perfect mix of old and new; this store tends to lean more towards €œdowntown€ savvy shopper looking for that off kilter designer piece at fraction of the price. Shoes are often a bit worn, but worth looking at since you can sometimes find a winner.

Ina, Multiple locations in Manhattan and an online boutique: Mostly designer at about a quarter of the price. A well edited store of slightly worn high end designer, but beware this is the cast off place for editors and models, so its rare to find goods over a size 4. Bags go quickly and are still expensive, shoe selection is great- and most are only slightly worn.

New York Fashion Week Runway: Diane von Furstenberg Takes Us ...

    image

The fashion world may be collective slump in this economy, but trust Diane von Furstenberg to bring a dash of optimism, texture and color while others fall back on dark and somber colors. DvF's trademark prints were in full force from a luxurious velvet leopard-print dress to chunky coats and cardigans all layered over solid or printed leggings. The loose silhouettes make way for layering and mixing prints with endless possibilities. And don't forget the pom-pom covered knit hats, embroidery and sequin details! Beauty trends to take note are neutral colored eye shadows, sheer pink lips and loose hair. One thing's for sure, Diane von Furstenberg sure knows how to keep the discerning fashionista in style and comfort whether dancing the night away at Studio 54 or traveling off to faraway lands.
